California is almost as red as it is blue, however. Look at the red/blue map by city. If you take away Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay area, you see nothing but red. But the two biggest population centers wag the electoral vote dog.
As for the state leg, effective dem gerrymandering has ensured that Republicans are nearly shut out.
The other factor is the hugely powerful public employee unions give tons of money to democrat politicians and dems only, because dems keep the fat salaries and pensions coming. One in nine californians works for the state, so it’s fair to say we have government by public employee union.
You do know Glendale has a larger population than Burbank...
That said, the Dems are the party of free stuff for illegals, minorities, the lazy and the choice of the gullible and since everyone can vote...... the electorate knows they can vote themselves money.
All you have to do is run on a platform that the US and Turkey officially recognize the Armenian Genocide. State Senator Adam Schiff (D) has used this for at least a decade. He keeps getting reelected every time and it never goes anywhere in DC.

That may be part of it, but the show was over for the GOP before Ahnold ever ran for office. Its demise seems tied to the public’s voting for and passing Prop 182, then the court’s overturning it, permanently altering the CA voting demographic.
This is standard procedure; pass a proposition on immigration/gay ‘marriage’ etc., and after they pass by public vote, a judge overturns that public vote and the judge is upheld by his colleagues on the appellate court. Public be damned.

Elections are no won by territory, but by voters. It is ridiculous to say CA is almost as red as it is blue. It is solid blue.

Legal immigrants can vote. 27.1% of the population is foreign born. 43.5% of the residents of the state age 5 and over live in households where a language other than English is spoken at home.
Destroyed over a period of time... mostly by leftist RINOs. Gov/Sen Hiram Johnson from the Progressive era through to the 1940s when the GOP was a super-majority, the ill-advised attempted office switch in 1958 of Gov. Goodwin Knight and Sen. Bill Knowland which gave the Governorship to Pat Brown and paved the way for hyper-Dem control in the ‘60s. The Watergate/ITT fiasco that sent the Governorship back to Jerry Brown in 1974. Pete Wilson’s elitism that resulted in the 1998 blowout (and the last majority hold of statewide offices). The death knell was Austrian Socialist Ah-nold governing to the left of Gray Davis and leaving the entire state with Dem supermajorities (along with the leftist redistricting board, which has continued to result in a declining number of Congressmembers).

One point: Legal immigrants can vote, but only after they become U.S. citizens, after 3-5 years of green-card status. Of course illegal aliens, once legalized, will also eventually become citizens and eligible voters. And the children of legals and illegals are born U.S. citizens, and can vote once 18.
