Russian Spy Planes in U.S. Skies By Eli Lake 12 hours ago The Daily Beast

The Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. military and American intelligence agencies have quietly pushed the White House in recent weeks to deny a new Russian surveillance plane the right to fly over U.S. territory. This week, the White House finally began consideration of the decision whether to certify the new Russian aircraft under the so-called “Open Skies Treaty.” And now the question becomes: Will the spies and generals get their way?

As the United States and Russia face off publicly over Ukraine, behind the scenes, Obama’s national security cabinet is having its own quiet feud over a long-standing agreement to allow Russian surveillance flights over U.S. air space.

The spies and the generals want to deny the Russians the overflight rights for its latest surveillance planes. The State Department, which ultimately makes that decision, has favored such certification. On Wednesday an interagency meeting of senior officials failed to reach consensus, delaying the decision until Obama takes it up with the National Security Council, according to U.S. officials involved in the dispute.

At issue is the Open Skies Treaty. First signed in 1992 and finally ratified in 2002, the treaty adopted by 34 nations allows the safe passage of planes equipped with advanced cameras and sensors that give governments the imagery and data they use to assess everything from compliance with arms control treaties to troop movements.

Like illegal invasion, spying is also an act of love.

Inconceivable that this is even a question. I can’t believe that we have lost our nation so quickly and easily and that the voices of millions of true patriots have not sufficed to save this republic.

Whore of Babylon gambling away her rights and sovereignty in exchange for “relationships”, bribes, what not.

Diversity motivates submission. PC is a catastrophy of communist envy ultimately.

This goes way back to Eisenhower.

It was revived in the Bush years.

The Pres signed it on March 24, 1992 and the Senate approved it on Aug 6, 1993. The Dems were in control at the time.

The treasonous GOP is just too busy IGNORING
Obama selling arms to al Qaeda, and
too busy leaving the borders wide open,
and too busy covering up previous weapon transfers
to al Qaeda — including 20,000 MANPADs in Benghazi.

The GOP stands for: GAVE . OBAMA . POWER .

GOP Leadership?

Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...

Leading from behind... maybe.

Think Jimmy Carter late 1970s. That’s the GOP “Leadership” model for today.

Never have I been more afraid for the future of our nation.

Not only do we have a loathing traitor at the helm, there is hardly a single person in a potential leadership position that displays the broad knowledge base and necessary leadership skills to even begin to oppose him.

Yes, they may get it partially. In an overall comprehensive fashion, we have a big fat goose-egg on our side.

This nation is in a serious world of hurt right now.

It’s on the brink folks.

This fool allowing our enemy to fly over our nation. What a fool. America is going to fall. Our enemies have been in our country for years now. And now we allow them too fly over all our land and figure out where our military is located and where all our facilities are to destroy them with nukes. What a fool. I’d call him a fool to his face. He is a fool.

That looks like a Tupolev Tu-95 "Bear" bomber.

It has four turboprop engines driving two contra-rotating propellers each. There was one on Ebay last month, discussed on Hacker News.

I remember reading about this as a kid and feeling totally creeped out that the “Russians” could just fly over the U.S. like that.

Seriously, Bush?

The state dept has too many new-bees without experience in foreign affairs...so too much time being spent holding their hands while they figure out what's what.

This is why we are loosing in the diplomacy arena.....many of the ambassadors were given positions for bundling money for Obamas election...they have no experience in foreign affairs let alone government. If I recall 14 -16 of our Ambassadors are without experience...so when they are matched against Career Diplomat's you can imagine how they perform... Bozo doesn't have the manpower to play against the Seasoned Diplomats out there.....even Hillary failed miserably on the Int'l scene.

Why in the world would the Russians bother with spyplane flights over the U.S. when they can learn whatever they want to know in the NY Times?

GOP leadership has been completely MIA.

And has been on every issue since at least '08.
