Then came the Black Plague around 1345 and a weakened population died like flies. On top of that the little ice age developed, probably started by the rotting bodies giving off massive amounts of CO2.
My family in Central England survived both events, so having a genetic memory recall I referred the NH rains as similar to the 1311-1317 event.
I may be guilty of a false analogy but I think not.
Columbus sailed the Ocean Blue in 1492. Who was in New Hampshire in 1311????
Wait a minute here; if the rotting corpses were giving off that much CO2 shouldn’t that have ended the Little Ice Age.
Aren’t the Goreistas claiming that CO2 is the worst greenhouse gas ever, after cow farts? Shouldn’t the rotting corpses have caused Gorebal Warming on a massive scale?
Now your just starting to confuse me and that’s not being GREEN you know.
Thanks! The Little Ice Age started precipitously with those late cold rains. After centuries of warming climate, ag practices had led to gradually earlier planting, and those rains killed off or rotted the seeds, leading to famine. The Plague hit a number of times, I suspect analogous to the flu now — there have been killer flu epidemics, but we’re used to the flu season now, despite the fact that probably a million or two die worldwide every year from the flu. The Plague was more or less always around beginning in the 14th c, but some of the seasonal yearly outbreaks were more vicious. Shakespeare was born just ahead of a bad outbreak that killed a large part of his hometown, and he managed to not contract it.
