Businessman Curt Clawson won the Republican nomination for U.S. House in Florida's 19th district Tuesday, a giant step toward becoming a member of Congress in the heavily conservative district. Clawson, who loaned his campaign nearly $2.7 million of his own money through early April, defeated three other candidates in a special primary election: State Senate Majority Leader Lizbeth Benacquisto, businessman Michael Dreikorn and former state representative Paige Kreegel.

Many conservatives have or had communist parents or were communists themselves when younger.

Ashley, Leslie, there are a bunch of them.

I think they all started as surnames, then were used as male first names long before they were used for girls. In the south they are still traditionally used for males even though the rest of the country may find it silly or confusing. I bet we’ll be seeing them used as male names less and less as time goes on.

Conservatives don’t vote for candidates that support common core, aka nationalization of our education system. Sorry, I don’t think true conservatives can support common core, as Benaquisto does.

Maybe clawson will prove me wrong and turn out to be a RINO, but I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Well, we’re about to find out where Clawson stands. If he turns into Mack IV’s clone, the McAllister analogy I made will be dead on the money.

Curiously, there’s only been one “Ashley” (first name) ever elected to Congress. A male from Western Massachusetts who served from 1893-97 (Ashley Bascom Wright).

>> It’s the south, there are men named Lindsay and Paige and Courtney. If you see a name like that running for office in the south, assume it’s a man. <<

Wow, I never knew the Bible belt had something in common with France. After all, you can find plenty of French men with names used almost exclusively for females here like Marie, Dominique, Alexis, Camille, Jean, Francis, Désiree, and Jocelyn.

On the plus side, perhaps it explains why both southerners and french citizens are vocally against gay marriage. It would suck if a guy named "Alexis Courtney Marie" kept getting mistaken for female and subjected to marriage requests from straight guys. ;-)

Benacquisto was supported by GOPe donors and would have had to support Boehner for Speaker. That’s the standard deal, Jolly had to agree to do so also.

That alone made Clawson the better choice IMHO.Though he is a bit of an unknown.

Palin was nuts to endorse Bencquisto...apparently only because she was a woman.

Rene is another. With Rene and Désire they have 1 e at the end for males and 2 for women, I think they are pronounced the same though. Weird.

Jocelyn? Yikes.

Hell he played for the Blackhawks. Before I started following hockey, back when they sucked and were never on TV because the (now dead) owner was an a**hole who wouldn’t allow it.

I have yet to see a situation where Palin didn’t endorse the woman candidate over a male candidate.
