http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/believing-bull/201109/you-can-prove-negative

Example, I can make the negative claim there is no Unicorn in my garage. To prove that negative claim we need only open the garage and look inside.

So yes, you can prove a negative claim as I said earlier by eliminating the possible positives.

Scientists refuse to even acknowledge that consciousness is important because they know they have no answers and they know their lack of answers leaves the door wide open, and they don’t like that.

Exactly. It’s the one irrefutable proof of the existence of the supernatural — i.e. that which can’t be explained by science and never can be. It cracks open the door to the existence of God and then it’s just a matter of figuring out what God is like. That’s when things get a little dicey in my opinion. But even there we’ve been given quite a few clues to work with.

Science gives us the language to explain that which is knowable about our existence and the existence of the universe. Religion provides the language to explain that which we have been told to take on the basis of faith, and will always be unknowable and of wonder, but still of inestimable worth to us.

what design?

If you're really interested, Hawking is the one who admitted a design, which I interpret as exemplified by the following:

- The obvious design in the size/distance relationship between the sun, earth and moon (called angularity, that rsults in the spectacular lunar and solar eclipses) - a relationship that is not even close anywhere else in the known universe.
- The obvious design that allows a giraffe to bend over to drink and its head not explode, and then stand up and not faint.
- The obvious design that allows a woodpecker to peck wood.
- The obvious design of DNA - too complicated to have "evolved".

I could go on, but if a few of my favorites aren't enough to at least make a skeptic think, then nothing will.
