Stop listening to so much conservative talk radio.
Take a break. Watch a cartoon. Go to a ballgame.
Do anything else for a while but think, talk or argue about politics.
Do what I do and listen to country music instead. I guarantee you wont be so angry all the time.
Thats what I told a bunch of riled-up conservatives the other day when I ran into them at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
I think I really shocked them when I said I rarely listen to talk radio.
What? You dont listen to Sean or Rush or Levin every day?
Nope. Nope. And nope. Theyre all great radio guys, great conservatives.
But I used to work in conservative talk radio. I didnt listen to talk radio every day then and still dont for the same reason I bet most country musicians dont listen to country radio.
Dont get me wrong. Conservative talk radio is great. But all you hear are angry callers. The only people I hear enjoying themselves are the hosts.
But these days it can be dangerous for Republicans because all you hear is conservatives picking fights with each other over who they want to run for president in 2016.

you need to understand that this is exactly the feeling of many of the so-called "angry conservatives" you are unfairly chastising.
it's not conservatives, but the establishment GOP you need to be dragging out to the woodshed. that's exactly what President Reagan would be doing.
“Do what I do and listen to country music instead.”
I have an idea of what Michael Reagan can do, but decorum prevents me from sharing my thoughts.
But all you hear are angry callers.”
yeah, you’re right. We should go to a “ballgame” while our country, freedoms, money and rights are taken. Good idea.
Some but not all conservatives are angry. But most conservatives are concerned and alert.
Some are angry because they’ve been hurt.
They’re hurt because they’ve been lied to and robbed.
It’s not a good idea to tell people to look away from the liars and thieves around them. It’s a much better idea to tell them how they can organize to stop the crime around them.
When Americans are quiet, peaceful and content, it’s a good bet they have control of their communities and are enjoying their shared American values. When they are angry and concerned, it’s a good bet some changes are in order.
What Michael is expressing is that he is bored with angry conservatives and is not up to being a leader of the conservative movement. Contrast that attitude with a real leader like Ted Cruz who can stay on message and alert conservatives to the dangers around them and still crack a joke here and there especially the kind that are aimed at democrats and their moles in the republican party.
So Michael, if you’re going to insert yourself in the debates and concerns of the day, step up to the bar and lead, else keep your door shut and lounge away on your easy chair.
I think it’s important not to be *irrationally* angry and make yourself sound like a ranting loon, because that turns off all the people who don’t realize how bad things are. If you *scare* the well-meaning but low-information types by looking and sounding like a crazy person, you’ll never win them over.
But stop being angry? Just because Michael Reagan is bored with hearing it? Um, no. We need to channel this anger and make it work for us: not an exploding volcano, but a flowing lava tube of political change.
By crackie I think you’ve got it!!!!!
He’s whistling past the graveyard.
I don’t listen to talk radio anymore, personally. It’s the same complaints everyday of every week, just rehashed slightly. I don’t want or need to be perpetually angry, I would rather be cool, calm, and collected regardless of what may be going on politically.
I still contribute money and vote but am heartbroken over what I am seeing. I can barely listen myself either and now just listen to country music. I find that talk radio just vindicates what I know to be true and don’t need the validation.
Do what I do and listen to country music instead............
Country music isn’t “country” anymore. Most of it is garbage and nothing even close to the original music of an earlier times. I grew up back in the late 40’s and early 50’s when country music was still strong and I was a huge country music fan. When they converted to a sound closer to “pop” music, I left them. It’s “blue grass” for me now.
If you aren’t angry, then you’re not paying attention.
You are right about country music. I grew up around the same time.
FR had a very interesting thread on this a day or so ago. If I knew how to post it, I would.
I remember when it was called “Hillbilly Music”.
Me, too. Rush/Hannity/Levin saved us back when we needed them. Now it's become 50 new reasons every week to hate this administration. Plus actual air-time is slowly being reduced for more commercials. FR is the best aggregate for news.
I would lock and load, meself.
It’s a bit too late for the other stuff.
To be honest, I’ve quit listening to the radio for the last few months. Sustained anger just leads to exhausted depression.
Mike is right.
I listened to talk radio for over 20 years. I was miserable and angry all the time. And then I stopped. I still keep up with the current goings on, but I try not to get whipped up about the same old crap that has been going on in one form or another for eons.
Turn off the damned radio once in a while and stop being angry about things that you can’t change. Life is too precious a gift to waste most of it weeping and gnashing your teeth.
God’s gonna win in the end. Get on His side and you will, too.
I don't care if it's on the gravestone of John the Baptist; it directly contradicts Scripture. Man is NOT good.
I wonder if Michael Reagan will ever be able to write a column without mentioning his dad. Well, Magnus IS his only claim to fame, I guess.
Statement B: "Dont get me wrong. Conservative talk radio is great. But all you hear are angry callers."
How can Michael Reagan say all you hear are "angry callers"? He doesn't listen to talk radio. Is he talking about callers to his own cancelled talkshow?
Stupidity is contagious. Avoid the stupid.
Michael had a great early evening talk show. It was one of the best things on radio in 1993-94. But he rightfully got tired of being cancelled for ball games and moved his show to afternoon drive, where it fell off the planet. He could have been great.
