Palin blasts Obama: Death panels? You betcha!

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin took to social media Friday to blast the Obama administration’s use of death panels in a post she titled, “No Problem With Death Panels, Not Even a Smidgen.” The term “death panel” refers to the rationing of health care by a review board given the power to decide who receives, and who is denied health care. Although the Obama administration has steadfastly denied the existence of death panels — especially in the Affordable Care Act — evidence of health care rationing by the federal government continues to mount. Palin invited her Twitter followers to “take a stroll down ‘death panel’ memory lane” with this tweet:

The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s ‘death panel’ so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their ‘level of productivity in society,’ whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.

Good point about the VA. England has these sorts of situations with their NHS all the time. It seems, from reading, that the government acts shocked, promises to “look into” the matter and doesn’t do anything. Kind of like the VA.

Only the ignorant, the stupid, (and) or the deceitful would deny that a socialized medical system wouldn't have "Death Panels". However, it's best to not think too literally. The "Death Panels" won't be (just) some mysterious Star-Chamber, operating clandestinely to determine your fate. There will be "death panels" throughout the system -- in hospitals, in health departments, in the insurance companies -- everywhere. They will be guided by ever thicker guidelines, rules, and regulations promulgated by government health authorities. Furthermore, medical schools everywhere will indoctrinate all medical professionals in the necessity of rationing health care.

You, as a patient, or advocate of a patient, will likely never (knowingly) appear before a death panel. You won't even really be certain of their existence.

For the most part, the death panels won't even be necessary, to effect the rationing required to balance the health care budget. Here, in Canada, for instance, we have months-long wait lists for expensive procedures, or for diagnostic tests that might lead to the demand for an expensive procedure. We've even tried rationing the number of medical professionals, by cutting way back on medical school places (that was started in about 1990, and lasted until about 2005).

Most people will be blissfully unaware of this insidious rationing. Low-cost routine care will be readily available, and people will naturally believe that indicates the system is working well. Those, who are in urgent need of expensive procedures, won't be around long; and they will be too ill to raise much of a fuss.

Remember the old saw: in a capitalist country, a line up is a signal to raise prices, or to supply more services; in a socialist country, line ups are a means of rationing supply.

Three things can happen when care is withheld, Patient dies, patient gets well on his own, patient holds on for treatment. Two out of three outcomes have no expense involved, so why would they not delay treatment?
