The global warming hysterics’ favorite fantasy these days is that Antarctic ice will melt due to hypothetical warming, leading to catastrophic flooding as the level of the oceans rises. It is commonly asserted that sea level will rise at least three feet by the end of the century. Put aside whether the Earth actually will warm and whether a three-foot rise would really be catastrophic. Put aside, too, any doubts about how much melting will occur even if the Earth warms by a few degrees, given that the average annual high temperature in Antarctica is -49 F. Does the reality of melting ice bear any mathematical relation to the oft-predicted flood scenario?
A reader who is familiar with geometry and arithmetic–which means he is not a reporter–decided to test the hysterical claim. I will reproduce his email in full:

There is another factor that affects global warming.
It is not man made burning of carbon fuel, but the increased presence of the Holy Spirit. For the same reason that a prayer to an evil person is like placing hot coals upon their heads and the weeds will be burned in the tribulation times, the earth is warming up.
The earth is being purified.
Here is one sure sign of why this stuff is all nonsense: the government is not issuing 100 year bonds, yet.

This will be accomplished by more draconian restrictions on business and energy use which will be mandated by arbitrary regulations spawned by the bogus hype to save the planet from the dread effects of antropogenic Global Warming aka Climate Change aka Climate Disruption.

Do any of these calculations figure in the amount of evaporation, all over the seas and oceans, that the rise in temperature would produce?
They figure in exactly what they want to figure in to produce the “desired” results which assure more funding for them in the future.
Place some ice cubes in a drinking glass.
Then fill the glass almost full with water.
Mark the water level with some kind of tape on the outside of the glass.
Allow the ice cubes to melt.
Observe the new water level.

Forget what Al Gore,Barack Obama,etc.,etc. are telling us about climate change. Someone else is in charge of all this,& all the money spent on changing it is a big waste of taxpayer funds. Stop & think where this money is going.
The article speaks about glaciers on dry land melting and draining into the ocean, not floating ice.

OK so sounds right
But now let be fair and use the same math for a different test...The biblical flood..how much water needed. Where did it come from where did it go?
Flooding can can be temporary and localize..because flooded normal are top down.not bottom.up
The climate on earth has been in flux since before the beginning of life. It is arrogant conceit to think man capable of altering natural change and a reprehensible political ploy.
This falacious sea ice argument can be dispelled this way.
The melting of sea ice which is what they’re talking about can be compared to a 12 oz glass filled with 5 oz of water and 5 ounces of ice. There is still only 10oz of liquid left once the ice is melted. There is no increase in the volume of liquid.
Check your assumptions.
There is an old saying that "a pint's a pound the world around". This is describing that the volume of a pint, 16 ounces volume, is equal to 16 ounces of weight. This applies to water. A pint of mercury would weigh considerably more than a pound.
A pint of ice weighs LESS than a pint of water because the water which was frozen expanded, thus requiring less than a pint of water to begin with.
If you recognize the ambiguity in referring to an ounce of anything other than water, then you will see that the situation is more complicated than you suggest.
