Detectives say Jonas Charles ambushed teens who returned to lot after stealing keys....
Instead of waiting for authorities to arrive, Charles took the law into his own hands and ignored the 15-year-old's plea not to shoot him, detectives said.
Charles then chased the wounded teen, yelling at him and firing another shot while on the phone with a BSO dispatcher, detectives said.

so johnny, you get that robbery is by force? that stealing is not robbery? what you cited does not allow anyone to shoot someone for stealing a car

the company already said this conversation may be recorded, did not say by whom(*), you just are using the fact that it was already mentioned that the call may be recorded.
*unless the recorded message states WHOM is doing the recording, you, in my estimation, are golden.
In TX, it looks like this would cover the situation. Even if they didn't have a stolen car, the thugs presumably still had the stolen keys, at night. I don't have a problem with laws that allow shooting the vermin who make life harder for decent people who are barely getting by. Even if insurance "covers" the theft, it doesn't cover the increased insurance rates due to a high crime neighborhood.
It's not just robbery.

I’ve worked building inspections in several of these “customer service” facilities, including a couple outside the US.
They have high turnover, and are always running training programs. Not necessarily effective ones, of course.
I agree with you. People make mistakes, especially young people...if the felony is stealing a car the context is obvious, no need to hunt and kill. It is not justified. Breaking into somebody’s home is different, you don’t know what the intent is. This hard-line “they deserve to die” for anything attitude is troubling...it is certainly *not* Christian teaching.

Dealer perp forgot key element of intentionally jumping in front of moving car and drilling the perp in car for trying to kill with said car. That is the common cop tactic for a righteous shoot.....plus erasing the dash cam video. (sarc)
This is an important legal topic and pretty confusing given the range of actions that can occur when you find someone stealing your property.
Perps armed to not? With what? Many criminal tools (hammer, screw drivers) are deadly weapons.
Rules are different for inside domicile vs business/out buildings.
Can you stand in front of their car to “hold them” and they try to run you down.
Can you shoot their tires out....or radiator...as a neighbor of mine did and was not prosecuted but rather acclaimed a hero.

As it is frequently argued, a truck can be backed up to a detached garage or barn and its contents loaded into said truck and driven off. The owner can do little unless his life is threatened.
Does just moving to the scene of the crime armed constitute needless escalation?
Fuzzy area that needs cleaned up to the benefit of the victim and not the thief.
Not too many years ago self defense laws needed reconciled for the same general reason.
But crime will take a sudden dive!

again burglary is stealing from a dwelling house, as opposed to breaking and entering or stealing
however, if it was nighttime, meaning no daylight maybe the Texas statute is broad enough, nonetheless, if you shoot someone, there will be investigation, lawyers and life will be complicated, although not as complicated as if you got injured or killed

Witnesses told detectives...... So apparently their was others who witnessed the shooting.

But chasing one that was wounded, unarmed, and shooting him (I assume)in the back?
If he had not done so the animal would have lived to steal and rob others. Worse yet, if he left the animal wounded it would have been a wonderful opportunity to sue the shooter for all he was worth.
I guess you think he should have used his own keys to open the car doors for the animals while they stole his property...and that would have prevented any VIOLENCE.
