NASA is just about ready to test-launch its so-called flying saucer into the edge of space.
The Low-Density Supersonic Decelerator is literally a flying saucer. The original launch date of June 3 was scrubbed because of weather. The next potential launch date is Thursday, June 5, NASA said.
"The agency is moving forward and getting ready for Mars as part of NASA's Evolvable Mars campaign," said Michael Gazarik, associate administrator for Space Technology at NASA Headquarters, in a news release. "We fly, we learn, we fly again. We have two more vehicles in the works for next year."

It’s good to see that after about 100 years of spaceflight, we’re still using fire shooting out of the backs of things

100 years of space flight?
If you count Sputnik it is 56 years. If you count the V1, it’s 70 years.
If you count Robert Goddard, it’s about 100 years.
Goddard only got up to about two miles in altitude, but he did it with a liquid-fueled engine.
Too bad he didn’t like math, or he might have figured out how to scale his combustion chambers up without melting them. Of course, he wouldn’t have had access to high-speed turbopumps even if he had figured out regenerative cooling.
That’s why I said “almost.” An even 100 years makes the joke much funnier, you see

This looks like a joke. A rocket strapped to a heat shield. Not very aerodynamic also don’t look very stable in flight either.
What US flag is it that has a cresent on it? Bet they hav e been embarassed over that- or maybe not. ;)

That’s one of those Flyer Saucers that is much larger on the inside than the outside.
The “Mars Attacks” Saucers were even bigger on the inside.
