The Colorado Civil Rights Commission has ordered a suburban Denver baker named Jack Phillips to make wedding cakes for same-sex couples, finding that his religious objections do not supersede the state's anti-discrimination statutes. Because if the Constitution should be subordinate to anything, it's the local thought police, hurt feelings, and nuptial pastries.
Raju Jaram, one of the reprehensible unelected commissionerswhose contact information is nowhere to be found on Colorado's government siteapparently had this to say about the case: "I can believe anything I want, but if I'm going to do business here, I'd ought to not discriminate against people."
No, you can't. Because Phillips isn't discriminating against gay Coloradans. Gay customers, as far as all the news stories have suggested, are free to shop in the bakery and purchase (at the same price) any of the cakes, cookies, and pastries they like, without ever being asked by anyone whom they love or what the gender equation is in their sex life. Public accommodations, fine. But the fact is that Phillips does not want to participate in a very specific ceremony, because he holds authentic, well-documented, age-old religious objections to such an eventin the same way that a Hasidic Jew or an orthodox Muslim might not want to participate in a ceremony that proclaims that Jesus is our Lord and savior. Maybe if we begin forcing atheists to party plan baptisms, the point would become clearer. Actually, maybe if we begin forcing Orthodox rabbis and imams to perform gay weddings, the point would be even clearer.

I’m at the point where I think that type of action has to be considered.
It’s the only way to drive a sane point home with the left...force them to swallow their own statist pill.
Of course this same unelected commission might find that such an action did the gay business ‘substantial harm’ and award them some type of judgement also.
That is the problem with unelected commissions...they tend to be stacked.
I’d go to jail before I’d bake the cake.
Or, more likely, I’d probably die in a shootout, when the authorities came to take me.
America-2014 for you. Fascist and morally depraved. What a hell of a sewer this country has become.
You are at least thinking on the right track.
What the hell happened to the American spirit of defiance???
Disobedience to tyrants is obedience to God.
REFUSE!
DEFY!
RESIST!
DO NOT COMPLY!
Then, when they come to force themselves and their will upon you and punish you for refusing to submit - you will know what time it is.
THAT is the answer to this entire fascist country we now live in and tolerate.
According to an article posted here yesterday, that is exactly what this baker is going to do.
Is that “holding hands” or “holding glands”?
Remember they started this war. We’re just gonna mess with their heads, the ones on their shoulders, of course.
one thing puzzles me about this.
who in their right mind would buy a cake from a guy who was being forced to bake it for you against his wishes?
i mean really. you want to eat that cake?
i don’t think so......
so how can this even work.
> who in their right mind would buy a cake from a guy who was being forced to bake it for you against his wishes?
Yep, cardinal rule of dining out - don’t piss off the people that handle your food out of your sight. They might be like Jesse Jackson and spit in it.
Id go to jail before Id bake the cake.
I would neither bake the cake nor go to jail.
This is my country and I am free and I am willing to fight as hard as better Men than me have done before.
Now will they force the bearded savages to do the same thing?
Obviously, no, since the left doesn’t want to stamp out the violent middle eastern death cult. It does want to eliminate Christianity.
The baker should run for public office on a religious freedom platform! I mean it, FASCIST PROGRESSIVE Tyrants must be stopped!!
Can't do that, but you can use liberal amounts of pepper. One time one of my daughters got upset with my wife about something. Daughter baked some food with lots of paprika and pepper in it. And didn't tell Mom before eating the meal. They did make up afterwards, but my wife did a lot of gagging over that meal.
Are you kidding?! If he did that, he probably would triple his gay clientele.
I would bake an ex-lax fudge cake nut instead of sugar ‘accidently’ put salt in it, see if they have any allergies then add it. If I someone who don’t want my business, I wouldn’t sue. I’ll find another business.
Colorado Civil Rights Commission
Would there be a Hitler in this group ?
I wonder if Raju thinks I should be able to go into an Indian restaurant and order a curried beefsteak.
“Since when does an appointed and unelected commission have binding enforcement powers?
This sounds like BS to me.”
It does if the legislature gives it those powers. In this case it would be the Colorado state legislature. The baker is free to petition the legislature to reign in the commission if he believes their powers are excessive.
Consider the EPA. All of its powers were delegated to it by Congress which can remove them at any time.
Mr. Phillips apparently feels as you (and I) do. He's stated that he isn't going to comply...

Excellent quote from the article-”Which would be misleadingbecause the idea that people should be left alone to live their lives as they see fit is quickly morphing into the ugly idea that we should all be forced to participate in your life.”
