Archive.org has many recordings for the days following June 6. Most of today’s recordings have time stamps like the ones yesterday. The final two don’t and they are both from the same source – NBC reporter George Hicks, broadcasting from the deck of the U.S.S. Ancon, a converted ocean liner that had previously seen service in the Mediterranean. The first short bite is partially included in the second longer one.

All times EDT.

No doubt about which side George Hicks was on. “Give em hell boys!”

Today reporters are too busy extending “fairness” to the enemy to do any decent reporting.

I absolutely love the recording of Kate Smith, "the songbird of the South", born in Greenville, Virginia, reciting the Battle Hymn of the Republic.

Does anyone wonder why she was so popular in those days?

That George Hicks audio is riveting. You feel like you’re right in the middle of the battle.
