Shannon Watts said a good guy with a gun "has never" stopped a bad guy with a gun.

Dear Shannon Watts,

STFU until you have a clue what you are talking about.

And make me a gaw-damned sammich.
Love,

Laz

  1. The Pearl, Mississippi school shooting was stopped by the vice principal Joel Myrick with a Colt .45, The Appalachian School shooting was stopped by two students with handguns. Both of the above incidents were stopped by the armed citizens threatening the shooter without firing.

  3. Plans to slay everyone in the Muskegon, Michigan, store and steal enough cash and jewelry to feed their "gnawing hunger for crack cocaine" fell apart for a band of would-be killers after one of their victims fought back.

  4. The mass church shooting in Colorado Springs was stopped by the shooter being shot by a church member with a CCW permit.

  5. The Santa Clara gunshop shooting in 1999 was stopped by an armed citizen after the shooter declared that he was going to kill everyone. Police found a list of intended victims in his car. Only the perpetrator, Richard Gable Stevens was shot.

  6. The December, 1991, Aniston, Alabama defense where a CCW holder stopped armed robbers who were herding employees, customers, and his wife into a cooler. He shot both robbers, killing one.

  7. July 13, 2009, in Virginia at the Golden Food Market: The gunman tried to shoot several people, was stopped by a CCW carrier.

  8. Just recently, in Early Texas, armed citizen Vic Stacy shot and stopped a deranged man who had just murdered two neighbors and was firing at police with a rifle. Stacy made a very long shot with his revolver, three times as far as the perpetrator was from the police officer, who had an AR-15 type rifle.

  9.  Updated link to Peach House Shooting one Year Later

That sounds like a very good story... but it never made the national news.
I wonder who made the decision to spike that story.
Of course, when a mass shooting is stopped by an armed citizen, there are not as many victims. This leads to the charge that it would not really have been a “mass shooting”.

  10. I have added this incident at the request of a reader:
Abraham Dickman had a history of anger against employees of the AT&T store in New York Mills, New York. On May 27th, 2010, he walked into the store with a .357 and a list of six employees. He shot the first employee, but was stopped from further attacks when Donald J. Moore, an off duty police officer who was allowed to carry his own handgun when not on duty, drew and fired his .40 caliber, killing Mr. Dickman before he could fire any more shots.
    AT&T store Link

  11. Here is another likely candidate.
College Park, GA, May 4, 2009.
Two gunman entered a party and ordered the men separated from the women. Then they started counting bullets. “The other guy asked how many (bullets) he had. He said he had enough,” said Bailey.
When one of the assailants prepared to rape a girl, a student was able to access a handgun and engage the two attackers in a firefight, driving one off and killing the other before the thug could rape his girlfriend.
“I think all of us are really cognizant of the fact that we could have all been killed,” said Bailey.
    College Park Link

  12. Another off duty police officer stopped the Trolley Square shooting with his personal handgun. He stopped the killing and contained the shooter until police reinforcements arrived and ended the situation.

  13. Winnemucca NV shooting, 25 May, 2008
The shooter, Ernesto Villagomez, entered the Players Bar and Grill and killed two people. He reloaded and was continuing to shoot when a citizen with a concealed carry permit shot him and stopped the killing.

  14. Parker Middle School Dance Shooting
14 Year old Andrew Jerome Wurst Killed one person and wounded three others when he was confronted by James Strand who subdued Wurst with a shotgun and held him until police arrived.
Parker Middle School Dance Shooting Link

  15. Destiny Christian Center Shooting, April 24, 2012
Kiarron Parker rammed his car into another in the church parking lot, got out and attempted to kill multiple church members. He was only able to kill one before a member of the congregation, the nephew of the lady killed, and an off duty police officer, drew his handgun and shot Parker, stopping the killing.
    Destiny Christian Center Shooting Link

  16. Tyler Courthouse shooting, 2005 While police officers were involved in this shooting before and after Mark Alan Wilson intervened, no more people were killed after he shot the shooter, who had body armor, and who was able to return fire and kill the CCW holder, Wilson.
    Tyler Courthouse Shooting Link

  17. Clackamas Mall Shooting
I include this story because it is recent and has been getting some interest on the net. This case is not as clear as the others listed. This incident is similar to the more common defensive uses of guns because the mere display of the gun was enough to defuse the situation. We can never know if the shooter decided to commit suicide because he was confronted by Nick Meli, the CCW holder, as the shooter is dead. However, many mass shooters commit suicide when they know that armed resistance is at hand.
    Clackamas Concealed Carry Showdown Link

  18. I have added this link as suggested by Doug Kuiphoff in the comments.  I do not think that it qualifies as a mass shooting stopped, because the potential shooter says that he did not intend to shoot anyone, but to kidnap some people.  Still, it is an interesting story, so here is the link:
SC:Boiling Springs Freewill Baptist Church event

  19. Added, from 2012.  Consider that the Plymouth shooting incident happened just three months before Sandy Hook.  Mark Ktytor, a concealed carry permit holder, stopped a likely mass killing before it reached enough victims to officially quallify.   From the citizensvoice.com:
.... and that's only 5 seconds of internet surfing.

She should tell it to this woman, Lisa Atkin, from Oregon. Lisa is now the Oregon State Coordinator for Second Amendment Sisters.

The money quote: "While the no trespassing signs, security system, and dogs didn’t stop Baker from breaking through two doors to get into the house, Atkin’s extensive firearm training stopped the burglary."

Not sure if I can post this information mod if not please remove. This is from the Gun Owners of America Site.

* Armed citizens kill more crooks than do the police. Citizens shoot and kill at least twice as many criminals as police do every year (1,527 to 606).[6] And readers of Newsweek learned that “only 2 percent of civilian shootings involved an innocent person mistakenly identified as a criminal. The ‘error rate’ for the police, however, was 11 percent, more than five times as high.”

On March 14, in a case that seemed a natural for national news, a football star was gunned down while trying to hold up a liquor store. Derrick Breedlove, a talented tight end, had recently signed a scholarship to play for Hampton University in Virginia. Scouts were already touting him for an NFL career. But when he entered the liquor store wearing a ski-mask and brandishing a sawed-off shotgun, Breedlove was shot and killed by a clerk.

On April 2, Virginia “Sue” Devoe was attacked in her Clintonville, Ohio home. Her former boyfriend, James Ryan McVey, kicked in the front door, dragged her through the house by her hair, and repeatedly kicked her. Then he attempted to kidnap her. That’s when Devoe’s 91-year-old neighbor came to her aid.

Shirley Becraft drew his handgun and shot the intruder. McVey’s death ended years of violent assaults on Devoe. A local investigator praised Becraft, saying, “It’s hard to know where she would be now if he hadn’t [shot McVey].”

On March 18, in Orange City, Florida, Robert Shockey waited inside Blockbuster Video for his son, who worked there, to close the store. The store had been the scene of a violent armed robbery a month before. Shockey, who has a permit to carry a concealed weapon, saw two ski-masked robbers burst through the doors. One carried a hunting rifle and threatened an employee.

Shockey pulled his handgun and shot the gun-wielding assailant. When the second robber reached for the rifle that his accomplice had dropped, Shockey shot him.

Police not only ruled the shooting self-defense, they stated that they planned to give Shockey a “good citizenship award.”

And so it goes.

On March 5, Bethan Scutchfield, a 71-year-old invalid from Colville, Washington fatally wounded a stranger who broke into her house and knocked her to the floor.

On March 6, an 83-year-old San Antonio woman shot a teenager as he tried to break into her home.

On March 3, in Pembroke Pines, Florida, two robbers pointed semiautomatic weapons at businessman Corey Dacres but the victim pulled his own gun and shot both of them. Dacres, who has a permit to carry a concealed weapon, was not injured.

Cases of armed self-defense occur thousands of times each year. What is the price we pay for the black-out of such stories by the networks? Like a shadow war, viewers who aren’t shown both sides of the issue remain uninformed.

The media made a conscious decision not to show Americans many images relating to the September 11 attacks. Likewise, author Robert Waters points out that when it comes to self-defense shootings, the media’s refusal to report on such stories negatively affects people’s attitudes regarding guns.

Robert Waters is the author of The Best Defense: True Stories of Intended Victims Who Defended Themselves with a Firearm.

I guess no good Guy has ever won a war, nor has any Good guy ever run a Government or enforced a law.

I’m not entirely sure what this lady is talking about or hopes to achieve with the power of the State which cannot be in her imagination ever governed of good men. At least in that final sentiment we find some small level of agreement. Governments are unfortunately frequently run by dishonorable men.

Whether the guns of the State have ever served to stop “Bad Guys” they have had a dramatic impact upon the rights of all men good and bad upon which they are a constant threat to be used.

Is there an example in school shootings or a mall shooting or these public facilities, where that has been wrong?

Since all these areas are "gun free zones" and by definition, law abiding gun owners are prevented from carrying their guns with them to stop these mass murders, the numbers are small.(She excludes LEO)

Of course, this raises a like minded question: How many of these mass murders did LEO stop or prevent?

(chirping....)

Now, how many crimes were prevented by "gun free zones" vs legally entitled gunowners who stopped criminals, even without discharging their weapons?

Hmmm. Let’s see. When they showed up to protest at the NRA convention, mz. watts is clearly seen departing in a black SUV with new york plates on it. A little far from it’s home state? Hmmmm. Sure bloomers isn’t footing the entire bill?

ISTR it was reported right here on FR that she had armed quards with her...

I see a lot of facts posted here. Facts are irrelevant, I’m sorry to say. Remember the adage that “A lie will be half way around the world before the truth gets its shoes on.” With the CMM (culturally Marxist media) to help the lie will spread like Japanese knotweed while the truth withers like an orchid at the south pole in winter.

The American Rifleman magazine devotes a page every month to stories that appear in various local newspapers to just this topic.

This woman & her organization are at best clueless at worst bought & paid for propaganda apparatchiks for our nations utterly corrupt political class.

My personal belief is that it is the later of the two options.
