House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), who was in line to be the next House Speaker, shockingly lost his primary Tuesday to economics professor Dave Brat. In knocking Cantor off and shocking Washington and the GOP establishment, voters in Virginia's seventh congressional district may have killed amnesty legislation in this Congress.
The Associated Press called the race for Brat at 8:03 PM EST with around 85% of the vote in and Brat leading 55.8% to 44.2%.
In the final weeks of the campaign, Brat made the race completely about amnesty and open borders, saying a vote for Cantor would be a vote for "open borders," and the seventh district primary would be the "last chance" to stop amnesty.
Regarding amnesty legislation, voters told Cantor and Congress, "not so fast."
After anti-amnesty Republican Ann Coulter endorsed Brat, Laura Ingraham, who has relentlessly fought for American workers against amnesty on her national radio program, campaigned for him last week. Brat said on Breitbart News Sunday that 700 people showed up to the event and some even parked in Cantor's cul-de-sac.
In wanting to crush Brat, Cantor inadvertently elevated Brat's name identification. After Cantor's top ally got ousted from a top GOP chairmanship in his district last month, Cantor did not take anything for granted, while Brat redoubled his amnesty attack. Cantor outspent Brat by more than ten to one during the last seven weeks of the campaign. Cantor spent nearly a million dollars, sending multiple deceptive anti-amnesty mailers ahead of the primary and ensuring his website made no mention of his previous support for amnesty and an increase in the number of high-tech visas. In endorsing Cantor, the Richmond Times-Dispatch did not even mention immigration at all. Brat's campaign spent only $76,000.
But Brat was relentless in his attacks on Cantor.

Great job, Mr. brat!!
And yet the enemedia tells us that 62% of the country favors amnesty and a path to citizenship for illegal aliens.
Does anyone know if there were crossover votes from the democrats that went for Brat?
That is a lie. They included asking the 30 million illegal aliens.
When is the last time that a Majority Leader of either major party got whacked in a primary?
And the vote count shows that this was a landslide victory for the insurgent.
The enemedia lies, as usual.
Obama is going to go all out now. He doesn’t care what people think or who he hurts, including Dems.
I’m sure Cantor offered up his full support to Brat in his concession speech. I mean, the fight was waged and the best man won, right? So now is the time for all good Republicans to come together in UNITY to defeat the “real enemy” the Democrats. Right?
RIGHT??? (yeah, I’m talking to you, RINOs!)
“When is the last time that a Majority Leader of either major party got whacked in a primary?”
Never. This is a first. The Speaker of the House was defeated in 1994 and Barry Goldwater took out the Majority Leader of the Senate in 1952 but those were in November. Never the Majority Leader of the House in a primary.
I hate to think it, but I have a hunch November won't be a celebration time for conservatives in the common wealth. There's just too much DeeCee bleed over.
This may be the shot heard round the country. New dialogue from GOPe coming soon.
Go Ahead, Boehner.
Make our day.
Try to introduce a bill. It’ll be your swan song, bub.

If he did, it wasn’t telecast. The only thing that could have been better tonight would have been had the pro-illegal alien amnesty protestors arrived at the time that Cantor was giving his pathetic little “I’m a conservative speech”. That would have been a poetic chickens coming home to roost moment.
This is a HOUSE race. The district voted strongly for Romney in 2012. GWB carried it by over 60%.
Tokyo Hume was on Fox awhile ago ranting about immigration reform is not amnesty. What a jerk.

Well, I guess you don’t have a good understanding of David Brat’s congressional district. Brat is a lock for victory in November.
The GOP-E Leadership in the US House, (Boehner, Cantor, and Ryan), is always gullible to Obama’s tricks. Consequently, Boehner, Cantor and Ryan, have all pledged to ram through this unpopular Obama Amnesty Bill due to Obama’s illegal decision to flood the USA with children from Mexico and Central America.
It is time to kick the GOP-E out of Congressional Leadership!
I really believe that we can win big in November if we do what these great patriots in MS & VA have done, work from the ground up.
In that case, I quite happily stand corrected. Thank you both!
Just listening to him on Hannity and the guy sounds great.
Christian to boot and proud of it, imagine that.
