I thought you would want to know, since you were keen to warn her early of the error of her ways.

She was short more than a few slices, she got dis-invited from the picnic. ;)

Some folks just won't listen.

He posted his own thread on it.

That was 3 minutes before I suggested it to him.

Benedict Arnold was a natural born citizen.
John Walker Lindh (the American Taliban) is a natural born citizen.
Harry Reid is a natural born citizen.
Nancy Pelosi is a natural born citizen.

There are very few Americans in 2014 who would hold an infant’s (with an American parent’s) place of birth against him or her in determining allegiance to our nation.

I saw that. I suggested that he post his own thread on the subject, but he did that 3 minutes before I suggested it, so I can't claim it as coup.

The voters and their electors rule on the Constitutional qualifications of our presidents. The Supreme Court has never even hinted that it would ever attempt to disqualify a presidential candidate based upon the alleged circumstances of a candidate's birth or parentage.

Under the Constitution, the voters and their electors select our presidents.

I am not going to take a position on Cruz being a natural born citizen. Let's see what the courts have to say. But should Cruz be our nominee, there will be HUGE blow back by the rats over claims that O was not a natural born citizen. Huge. It is good that Cruz is addressing this issue now, hopefully the issue can be dealt with before 2016 primaries. Cruz needs to put this issue to bed as fast as possible.

I am curious, there are a large number of American women married to Islamic men living in the middle east. Our their children Natural Born Citizens too? Serious question.

“Did you miss what happened to Millie? She is no longer on this forum. She was warned that Cruz bashing based on ‘natural born’ was a good way to get the zot.”

I haven’t once bashed Ted Cruz. That is a fact. I even stated I like him. How is that bashing?

She loved him, too. Very concerned. Wanted him to be the AG.

Read the thread, newb.

Carefully read what the forum owner (Jim Robinson) wrote.

Cruz is a constitution loving and defending (literally—see his record), red-blooded natural born American citizen in every sense of the term. He’s a freedom-loving Texan and a Christian. He damn sure ain’t no muslim or foreigner.

So go muddy up someone else’s water with your obnoxious concern trolling.

Since Paul appears to be going soft AGAIN on illegal immigration I will be supporting Cruz (he was always on my short list) unless Sara gets in then I will have rethink things. But you can bet dollars to donuts the rats will raise holly hell over Cruz’s eligibility to be president of the USA. So we’d better have a good argument to counter the attack that everyone knows is coming. Bringing up the fact that an attack is coming is not trolling. I asked a serious question and you again can bet that someone else not friendly to Cruz will ask the exact same question. Right now when I talk to folks about Cruz and they bring up NBC I tell them that our current president set a new precedent. And that the old definition of NBC no longer applies. I’d like a better answer, but at the moment that is the best I can honestly come up with.

See the thread I just posted. And if you don’t like the source, check with CATO. They also said he is eligible. To hell with the leftists (and the concern trolls).

1. Don't give credit to Ozero for setting a new precedent. He didn't.

2. The old definition of NBC still applies (though it might not be the one you're using).

3. Follow Jim's instructions and you'll have your answer.

4. Understand this: American citizenship laws stand alone. What another country's citizenship laws might be -- in respect to an American citizen -- are totally irrelevant under American citizenship law.

I took a look at the thread Jim posted and I'm fine with Cruz being a NBC. I do think we are opening the door to someone else born to an America mother in a hostile country also being considered a NBC. But that worry is tiny compared to the problem we face right now.

I can't think of any conservative better then Cruz, I liked Paul but his is going wobbly on illegal immigration again. This is the third time and for me three strikes and you are out. Cruz IMHO is weak on foreign policy. He needs to get up to speed on exactly who our real enemies are, but he's a smart guy so I have little doubt he will get up to speed quickly.

That door has always been open. And still is.

The solution -- as it always is -- is for the electorate to do a better job of picking candidates.

what you just described is a popularity contest, not law. a contest that required him to be on the ballot in the first place... whose integrity would be lost due to his inelibility to be there in the first place.

under your guidelines, Arnold Schwarzenegger could run and win the popularity contest... then all he has to do is convince any judges to dismiss all challenges before ever being heard (which is a lot easier for a dem then a conservative as the courts have been packed by the left)

btw, in any if the 342 legal challenges 0bama had (I was only aware of the 23 cases), was there a single case in which he submitted any documentation, ie: a birth certificate, to the court as evidence of eligibility? in all the cases I’m aware of, he’s been able to avoid that on every occasion.

you’re aware that in order to maintain the integrity of the ballot, at least by the list of candidates, all names appearing must be eligible to assume office.

of course, I could not find a single supervisor of elections in the 10 states I checked that actually collected or confirmed the eligibility of the names on the ballot. they were happy enough to accept a voters registration as being eligible to be on the ballot. none of them collected any birth information or even verification of citizenship. fill out the form and pay the filing fee. that’s all they cared about.

it would be interesting to see if Putin or Queen Elizabeth could get on the ballot by collecting enough signatures and filing the paperwork

An American living overseas who becomes a parent with a non-citizen transfers citizenship by blood to their children if they’ve met the requirement for years of residence in the USA.

Obama’s mother, if he was born overseas, which has never been proved, did NOT meet those years of eligibility. That IS THE BASIS of the claim against Obama. She was very young.

Cruz’s mother met those years of required residence inside the USA plus many more. She was not very young when she gave birth to Ted Cruz. She was already a college graduate, had a masters degree, and had worked some in the energy industry, iirc.

There is no such thing as an “old definition” of natural born citizen. The US has always accepted the children born overseas to only one US parent as a citizen at birth.
