Is the violence in Iraq Obama's fault?
CBS News ^ | June 13, 2014 | Rebecca Kaplan

Posted on 06/13/2014 6:44:03 AM PDT by Rennes Templar

The end of the Iraq war in 2011 was a high point of President Obama's first term, marking the completion of one of his most important campaign promises. But as Islamic militants capture cities and towns throughout Iraq and march toward the capital, Baghdad, the president once again faces the criticism that his foreign policy has failed.

The violence has swept Iraq just two and a half years after the last U.S. troops departed following a nearly nine-year war. The gains made during the war have been wiped out with the rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

The group's advance raises questions that will likely dog the president during the remainder of his time in office, from whether U.S. forces should have stayed behind, to how he might have tried to alter the course of events in recent years, to whether a similar policy in Afghanistan is doomed for failure.

Experts almost entirely agree that Mr. Obama could have done things differently, but differ on the question of how much blame he bears for the situation, when he might have changed course, and even whether it would have substantially changed the situation.

You have forgotten that Cheney & Rumsfeld were terrorizing the American people with warnings of mushroom clouds right here in the USA. You have forgotten that he war was sold on the myth of nuclear weapons almost ready to launch.

Obama took possession of it in 2011 by doing a “Mission Accomplished” victory lap.

A lot of Chaldean Christians who now live in Jordanian refugee camps — if they’re alive at all — wish we could return that that kind of “instability”.

Yes. And the Obama buttlicking media will DO THEIR BEST to cover for him.

Hillary ALSO bears quite a bit of responsibility, too, by the way. She was at the helm of State as we ignored the threat.

The bottom line is we will end up fighting these terrorists. They will not stop in Iraq.

They are growing stronger, America under Obama and Hillary is growing weaker....

We must turn back to God. Repent.

Obama’s speech at West Point was a signal to the ISIS

“The bottom line is we will end up fighting these terrorists.”

Fighting is the only way to stop them. Bush knew this. Obama actually thought they could be appeased. Now look at the mess he’s allowed.

Worst. Prersident. Ever.

The shame should be over the waste of US soldiers lives. If Obama had followed through with military presence, I believe Iraq would be stable. The only way to keep the sectarian violence down is with a strong deterent. I think the extremists could have been marginalized. Now, forget it.

It almost feels pointless to debate this on here again, but yes Saddam Hussein was absolutely building nuclear weapons and the facilities and scientists were moved to Syria.

And the US wasn’t the only ones saying Saddam was close to acquiring nukes - other allies and international agencies were saying it as well.

The movement of the nuclear program to Syria eventually led to the Israeli strike in September 2007.

Here's the real powers behind Arab Spring, and the violent crap that escalated in Syria. and spread to Iraq: Bilderberg, CFR, Goldman Sachs & George Soros.

Fascinating article:

It will be easy for Obama to alter the course of events. Just blame the Republiicans and let the MSM know when to start the attack?

One has to suspect that this was Ob@ma's intent all along... the alternative is that he is stupider than a post. To tell the Iraqi govt to 'work out its differences' with insurrectionists is the same as saying: Good Luck!

I predict that within a week Iran will move in to fill the vacuum - the very thing we positioned ourselves to prevent with the 'surge' et fol. We had a $bil military base in Iraq that we could be using to counteract Iran... it could be providing us air-access to Afghanistan rather than needing fly-over permission from various.

Ob@ma has helped empower Iran vis-a-vis Turkey - once a primary U.S. ally in the region. He has helped empower Iran in Syria to help prop up Assad's regime. He has jeopardized Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, UAE & ? vis-a-vis Iran.

Christianity in all the Middle East is all but finished except in Israel - a country we are alienating progressively. In fact, if one reads Bible prophecy, one wonders if the antichrist is green with envy with all our Prez is accomplishing in breaking down the balance of power in the Middle East - and the world... and isolating Israel from all the nations.

<sigh>

They already have. Providence Journal (Rhode Island) had a story this morning where Governor Chafee said exactly that.

Iraq was on path to Democracy when Bush left office, elections were held and we had trained Iraqi soldiers.

Obama withdrew the troops and claimed victory, even though it was Bush and our military who had done it.....then walked away and let Iraq go back to chaos.

So like you said, who the he&&’s fault do they think it is? Sad and Bad...evil.

He didn’t “threaten” anyone - he warned us of the possibility. Are you that easily unsettled?

The strong deterrent is Islam. Throughout it's history stability under the umbrella of state (think Saddam, Ghaddafi, Ayatollah etc.) or tribe, Muhammedans required leadership which recognized no boundaries, no limits to it's power. Brother will kill brother &/or father or cousin to seize that power.

The blood and treasure our nation has offered to 'secure' (i.e. democratize) Iran was not wasted if we learned this lesson.

How much more blood and treasure will be lost before Islam is clearly understood to be a doctrine never ending war?

Obama withdrew US forces. It is his fault. Obama released the leaders of tgese groups. We should have permanent bases in Iraq. We are still in Germany.

Always remember that Obama sides with the Muslims.

He made that declaration voluntarily.

But our congress critters, MSM and even the folks on Fox News have conveniently ignored that statement.
