‘Southern Charm’ star planning US Senate race against Graham

CHARLESTON — With less than a month to go before the filing deadline, Charleston businessman and reality TV show star Thomas Ravenel says he is proceeding with plans to run as an independent for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Republican Lindsey Graham.

Ravenel, who was state treasurer before resigning due to federal drug charges, said Wednesday that he plans soon to complete a petition drive, collecting the signatures of at least 10,000 S.C. voters.

That petition would enable him to appear on the ballot this November with three other candidates, including Graham, in a bid for a six-year Senate term. Also on the ballot will be Democratic state Sen. Brad Hutto of Orangeburg, and Libertarian Victor Kocher of Columbia.

Though he is postponing any official confirmation of his candidacy until the required signatures are collected, Ravenel is not shy about disparaging his potential opponents, especially the race’s frontrunner, Graham.

Ravenel accuses Graham of having a “knife to the back” of the U.S. military, saying the hawkish senator consistently wants to send “overstretched” American forces into conflicts across the world. All the while, Ravenel says, Graham helps enrich military contractors.

If Ravenel is indeed on the ballot, the conservatives of South Carolina will have an outlet to vent if they don't want to vote for a democrat.

Linda Graham may be a pathetic excuse for a senator but anyone who votes for this fool is voting for Harry Reid as majority leader.

The people do not need to reward Lindsey Graham’s treachery with another vote, just because he has an “r” next to his name. These oligarchs have depended on conservatives voting for them because “the democrat would be worse” for far too long!

Time for Lindsey to reap what he has sown. Let him get reelected with the moderates and democrats that he loves so much!

This explains how Lindsey Graham continues to win the republican primary ..........

An open primary is how the GOPe and Thad won in Mississippi.

And LG is not a RINO Democrat? BTW, your logic is being rejected by more FReepers every week.

As an Ohioan, who has always respected South Carolinians' devotion to their State and their historic willingness to assert & defend her sovereignty; I certainly recognize that the decision about what to do about Lindsey Graham's repeated insults is not mine to make. But, perhaps I may be forgiven in suggesting that having a substance abuse problem may not be as serious as being a Quisling, who continuously insults, betrays & repudiates the values of those he claims to represent.

And Milch McConnell as majority leader would be different, how?

Milch has already said that he has no intention of repealing Ubamacare.

He also can't wait to pass amnesty, though amnesty is now moot since Ubama conspired with Latin American leaders to overwhelm the US borders and disperse thousands of illegals a day throughout the country.

So, seriously, what difference would it make?

Are you awake? Do you not love Liberty more than you love the utterly corrupt GOPe?

People like you are always the last to see reality.

LG is a Tea Party hating, Conservative hating GOPe puke.

Have you not heard Remember Mississippi ?

The utterly evil GOPe pulled off their mask, they have declared a blood feud with Conservatives?

I applaud this move. It will increase the odds that the evil LG will be defeated.

We must first politically destroy ALL GOPe puke RINOs, then we can worry about the evil RATS.

It is indeed my pleasure to make your acquaintance! Thank you for displaying understanding about this damnable situation in SC, MS, and other States.

I hope the star ditches his skinny redhead connected girlfriend and takes up with a woman of decent and substantial infrastructure.

yeah great candidate........

In June 2007, Ravenel was indicted on federal cocaine distribution charges by US Attorney Reginald Lloyd. The filed charges allege that Ravenel purchased less than 500 grams of cocaine through an intermediary in Charleston, South Carolina, in 2005, prior to his election as treasurer but after his abortive entry in the 2004 Senate race.

Is that all? Bill Clinton did that much for breakfast when he was Gubinor and the Mena pipeline was able to sustain the flow.

Maybe Matt Lauer and Bill Maher can vouch for his abilities?

They’ve stared in mirrors and lenses most of their lives. :-)
