GOP Ex-Lawmakers Endorse Dem Candidate Over Kansas Gov. Brownback

Several Republican former Kansas officials have endorsed Democratic gubernatorial candidate Paul Davis over GOP incumbent Gov. Sam Brownback.

Republicans for Kansas Values, a group of more than 100 former lawmakers and GOP officials, including two former lieutenant governors and a former congresswoman, announced their support for Davis on Tuesday.

“All of us are proud Republicans. We came together because of our common love of Kansas, our commitment to Kansas families, and our belief in moderate, commonsense leadership,” former state Sen. Wint Winter said in a statement for the group. "We are deeply concerned by the direction Sam Brownback is taking Kansas. Today we announce our opposition to his re-election."

Before the Tuesday endorsement and a recent poll showing him ahead of the GOP governor, Davis was a long-shot candidate for governor in a red state.

The group criticized the governor's support for tax cuts and reduced funding for public schools. Republicans may also be turning against the governor over his efforts in 2012 to rid the state legislature of moderate Republicans in favor of more conservative challengers.

While Kansas is a conservative state, voters there have elected Democratic governors in the past. Kathleen Sebelius served as governor for two terms before Brownback took office.

Frankly, this is an act of war committed by the GOPe and their minions.

I’ve had it with the party elites.

This is a list of people whose names are only vaguely remembered. For good reason. There is not one of them who warrant any hand-wringing on Brownback’s part. Pathetic.

Every day it seems, there’s another illustration that not a dime’s worth of difference exists between Republicans and Democrats.

KS has a long history of crybaby Repubs turning RAT. Brownback is a good Governor, which is why the leftie media are posting fake polls.

Sounds like the "turning against" may be payback by RINO's

Republicans for Kansas Values...

Seems to me that if these nimrods were "for Kansas values" they'd still be their representatives.

Thanks to these Repubs I’m inspired to do the same if Alexander/Corker win the primaries.

Hey y’all notice GOPe aren’t having op-eds written critical of them supporting Dems. Didn’t happen when Cuccinelli was running for gov and when Nunn got GOP support. Huh.

Alfred M. Landon, Nancy Landon Kassebaum Baker, Frank Carlson, James B. Pearson were all on the left, Dole to a lesser extent. KS has not elected a Democrat since c. 1934, if I am not mistaken, but they like those Democrat governors.

But... but... I thought Republicans are ALWAYS supposed to come together and rally behind the party nominee! You mean to tell me (gasp!) that members of the honorable GOP Establishment AREN’T backing the party’s conservative candidate?!?! Why... why, isn’t this what is demanded of us conservatives whenever the all-mighty Establishment and its apologists foists some squishy, moderate, unprincipled RINO candidate on us???

Governor, Lieutenant Governor were held by Dems Kathleen Sebelius and Mark Parkinson respectively from January 13, 2003 – April 28, 2009. The offices of Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, and Treasurer were in democrat hands in April 2009 until Jan 2011. So it has only been purely republican since 2011.

Uniparty Ping?

I wonder if the NRSC and other “moderate” groups will be helping out the Dem?
