The existence of gay Republicans is hardly a new phenomenon. The Log Cabin Republicans, an organization for gay men and women within the party, was founded back in 1977 in California. But every so often, the existence of gay conservatives gets media attention, particularly during election cycles.
In more recent years, gay conservatives have been getting more attention as the Republican Party struggles with its identity. American opinion has shifted significantly to support top issues among gays and lesbians, particularly in support of marriage recognition. Support for gay marriage among evangelical Christians has doubled over the past decade, according to one poll. The Republican Party has declared the primacy of heterosexual marriage even in its most recent presidential platform, but it's hard to visualize how the Republican Party will be able to sustain any position that can remotely be called anti-gay moving forward. This ambiguity about what the Republican Party might look like five years from now is not just about the relationship between the party and religious conservatives.

Reason.
Probably one of the most mis-named publications of all time.
The “gay” Republicans I know don’t use their sexual preferences to define who they are. They do not use their gay exhibitionism as a crutch to beat people over the head.

I don’t know any carefree Republicans!!!
I know that the first-mentioned candidate (of three), Carl DeMaio, does not play up his sexual orientation. He’s not closeted/ doesn’t utterly avoid mention of it, but I was relieved to see that the issue is barely a blip on his campaign tracker. It’s all about cutting spending/ regulation and letting businesses create jobs, etc.
I find this rather interesting. Republican are supposed to be small, non-intrusive govt and all. So, it seems to me that the game plan should be to have them say, “ you are asking us to make a decision where we have no business making a decision”. I’d like to see the press tied up in knots with a response like that. We need to make comments to irriate them and throw them off their game plan. The best way to do that is to irriate them.

Courts have no business making those decisions either
So now GOP stands for Gay Old Party.
