Sen. Lamar Alexander could be facing his toughest challenge in his 36-year political career heading into the Tennessee Republican primary next month.
The two-term senator who also has served as governor, U.S. Secretary of Education, and has run for the White House twice has six opponents in the Aug. 7 contest, The Hill reports.
Alexander, 74, is the clear favorite, but tea party-backed state Rep. Joe Carr is seen as his strongest challenger.
Carr is pitching himself to voters as the candidate who would bring new ideas to a Washington that has changed greatly during Alexander's years of public service. He is a business consultant in Murfreesboro who was first elected to the Tennessee House in 2008.
He has been endorsed by conservative radio talk-show host Laura Ingraham, who hosted a rally for him in Nashville this week, and by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
"Thank you, Lamar Alexander, for the respect and integrity youve shown in your many years of public service in Washington," Palin began in a Facebook post this week. "With the new challenges in D.C., the time has come for new leaders who are willing to stand up to the political establishments and the Obama administration and say, 'no mas!'
"Unfortunately, advocating and voting for amnesty, cash for clunkers, bailouts, raising the debt ceiling, and many controversial Obama administration nominees has marred the incumbents record.
"Joe Carr is the new voice Tennessee needs in the U.S. Senate!" the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate declared.

Alexander...go away.
PING
“Alexander...go away.”
Did my part yesterday, voted for Joe Carr in the primary...!
Question..
What determines the winner in the GOP primary for senate? Is it just the one with
the most votes or does it require 50% +1 of the votes cast?
There should be a lot of interest statewide as apparently many differing offices
are up from federal down to county level. With seven candidates in the GOP
Senate primary it seems a 50% target may be hard to achieve without a runoff.
I see there are some 176,147 votes cast in early voting in the GOP side thru 7-26.
Thanks for any clarifications you may can provide.
Did mine Monday. Surprised me our RINO governor was on the ballot. Never knew this was a guberatoral election, no ads, no mail outs. The lamarer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwSAN5X25Bg
If you have not voted yet these 3 LIBERAL judges need to be replaced. Connie Clark, Sharon Lee, Gary Wade. I voted NO to retain any of them. I know nothing about how they think. These 3 like 0’care, and very LIBERAL. They have hired top 0 political operatives to run their campaigns.
For District 81 state Rep Rory Bricco a leader not a follower as our current rep is. http://www.rorybricco.com/endorsements.php

Joe Carr is finally getting some media attention. I have heard quite a bit of Lamar! on radio (Rush / Hannity slots) but virtually nothing from Carr. I know he’s been at TP meets on a regular basis. Hopefully, that will help make up the dearth of media exposure.
Twelve days to go. A couple of days with Palin on the stump with him would be nice.
I was very disappointed to hear Fred Thompson on the radio endorsing Lamar. Huckabee I understand, but I thought Fred wasn’t one of the establishment.
It’s a plurality, not a majority. Hence, no runoff if Lamar! gets 1 vote more than the closest of his opponents. Joe Carr has a tough lift.
Fred’s a lot more establishment than he appears to be. For example, he voted for the McCain-Finegold Act to undermine the First Amendment and he supports the ongoing move to destroy the electoral college without a constitutional amendment. IOW he’s pretty much of a Trojan Horse.
Thanks for your response. I did go look and posted the TN Code. Yes it
will be hard for anyone to defeat Lamar when all he needs is one more
than his closes competitor.
No doubt...! He gets a lot of attention on the local talk shows in the Jackson, Tn. area...!
So did I...! I voted to replace them all....!

Birds of a feather flock together. Once they start hanging out with the “good ol” boy” networks in Washington, it’s not long before 90% of them become political whores.
Yes it will be hard for anyone to defeat Lamar when all he needs is one more vote than his closest competitor.
