You can’t just kill people on your porch, the porch is where you stand when you are knocking on a door.

He didn’t live in Detroit and this didn’t happen in Detroit despite the story coming out of Detroit.

This happened in relatively quiet middle class Dearborn Heights.

I guess the “I was in fear for my life” claim
did not work out for the homeowner in this case
like it does when a cop shoots a poodle.

Testimony was that he had 3 beers after work over the course of a couple hours. That was several hours before the shooting and he had several hours of sleep between

Being irresponsible with a gun is every bit as bid as being a gun grabber.

According to the MI Supreme Court your porch is part of your home and the Castle Doctrine applies there as well.
He argued self defense and lost.
Shouldn’t have opened the door for SD to apply

She was knocking on the door not trying to enter it, he shot her through a screen door.

Good conviction, he murdered someone.

I remember this, she was drugged out and partying all night, wrecked her car
or something and somehow ended up miles from the accident at his doorstep.

This was a burglary in progress. That was my assessment anyway.

This was not a ‘good’ shoot.

He didn’t know who he was firing at or what was going on.

If he feared for his life why did he open his metal front door?
He was safe behind it. Why open it and expose himself to a perceived danger?

His actions were not rational.

How many burglars bang on the front door?

She was pounding on the door so hard it shook the house. So loud that a neighbor looked out to check on their car.

I’m not defending him. Just pointing out the testimony.

Just her. Check the first link in post #28. Read it all for a good report
of most facts in the case.

First rule of encountering the Police, STFU until you talk to an attorney.
When the Officer asks you a question you ask, "Am I required by law to answer your question?"
When the officer says "no", you tell the officer that you will take his advice until you
talk to an attorney first!

Not talking to the police is Not a talking point, It's to protect your Ass!
This guy did Not protect himself, misspoke to the police, and got himself
convicted for doing so...

The testimony led to conviction.

He is a killer.

If someone came banging on my porch door at that hour (in Detroit, no less) I’d certainly have feared for my life

If someone were banging on my door at that hour of the morning, (I'm in a suburb outside of Detroit that is not free from crime)I would immediately have called 911 then gone to answer the door with a gun in my hand in case it was someone requiring emergency assistance........

I have no idea what went thru this guy's head but I suspect it was a twisted interpretation of our "Castle Doctrine" law and he felt justified in just shooting the girl............

A tragic death, to be sure, and a justified verdict...........

I’ll have to recheck the testimony later on legal insurrection but iirc, there was some argument as to the condition of the screen door and what caused the damage.

Please remember that the majority of the coverage of this trial has been by those who wanted to make this another Trayvon trial

Don’t fire a warning shot. That’ll come back on you as reckless discharge of a firearm. You don’t point the gun at or shoot anything you aren’t willing to destroy. You don’t know where that bullet is going to go. I’d never pick up a car and throw it 200 miles to the west. With my luck, it’d end up landing on a first grade class.
