U.S. President Barack Obama opined in a New York Times interview that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is too popular at the moment to make territorial compromises with the Palestinian Authority.
Asked whether he should be more vigorous in pressing Netanyahu, and the Palestinian Authoritys president, Mahmoud Abbas, also known as Abu Mazen, to reach a land-for-peace deal, Obama said that this has to start with them. Prime Minister Netanyahus poll numbers are a lot higher than mine and were greatly boosted by the war in Gaza, Obama said. And so if he doesnt feel some internal pressure, then its hard to see him being able to make some very difficult compromises, including taking on the settler movement. Thats a tough thing to do.
With respect to Abu Mazen, its a slightly different problem....
Asked if he is worried about Israel's long term survivability, Obama said: It is amazing to see what Israel has become over the last several decades... Think about the dream of the early Zionists and to have scratched out of rock this incredibly vibrant, incredibly successful, wealthy and powerful country is a testament to the ingenuity, energy and vision of the Jewish people.
And because Israel is so capable militarily, I dont worry about Israels survival. ... I think the question really is how does Israel survive. And how can you create a State of Israel that maintains its democratic and civic traditions. How can you preserve a Jewish state that is also reflective of the best values of those who founded Israel. And, in order to do that, it has consistently been my belief that you have to find a way to live side by side in peace with Palestinians. ....

Each time this community organizer opens his mouth he only shows he’s way in over his head for this job and what a disaster for the US.
DN terminally
The last thing we have to worry about is nobama compromising. Egomaniacal narcissists never, ever compromise.
Wow. And you know this was a complaint too, he wants Israel to be weaker and to "compromise" with the murderous terrorist group
Que the cartoon of John Kerry saying “Can’t you just meet them half-way?”
When was this interview? When did he say this?
So, because the Palestinians are so close they can fire rockets without even thinking, knowing they will hit Israel, that is why Israel should give up more land to these same Palestinians?
Our state department is full of idiots.
It worked in France. When they surrendered, the Germans stopped bombing them, and instead started oppressing them. Isn’t that just peachy?
Clown Prince nobama is such a clown.
Well Zero BiBi aside (because he is doing a fine job.. so lets talk about YOU!)
Your poll numbers are crap... Time for YOU to compromise with the republicans.
bottom line: Obama quote; Bibi has balls and I don’t, that is the difference. Unfortunately I am third, behind Putin and Netanyahu, I predict, by the end of the month I will be far behind Jimma Carter. “
If Israel has learned one thing from the Gaza episode, it is precisely that “territorial concessions” are a very bad idea.
Israel left Gaza in 2005. In 2006 Hamas was elected. In 2007 the rockets started. The Muslims have shown they will use any new land to set up yet another terrorist base.
What Israel should do is to reclaim Gaza and officially annex the West bank. The world will howl for a little while, but it will die down. The result will be a larger, safer Israel.
Arabs in the new territory will be given the option of eventual Israeli citizenship or a ticket to an Islamic hellhole of their choice. The smart ones will choose the former.
Bibi, is a man’s man.
Obama just ain’t a man, period.
I am sure his minions are working to lower Bibi’s poll numbers. Look for some sort of fake scandal to hit the news.
This is amateurism at its most profound.
This is something that should have been a revelation from some newly opened archives 50 years hence.
This country is done.
They howl anyway so let them howl.
Here’s something to think about:
The HAMAS sympathizers claim all those deaths are due to Israelis failing to avoid civilian casualties. “It’s so densely populated” they say. But think about this: 25% of all Gazan rockets LAND IN GAZA, at truly random, launched almost exclusively from populated areas. That’s 750 HAMAS rockets landing in Gazan towns over the last month. How many of the dead are from their own rockets? 100? 1000?
See what happens when a politician runs into a leader!!!!!
