'This Is Not Open For Discussion' — Massive SWAT Team Tells Peaceful Protesters In Ferguson To Leave

A large police SWAT team showed up to a peaceful demonstration in Ferguson, Missouri and the scene is getting increasingly tense, reports Huffington Post's Ryan J. Reilly, who is currently on the ground.

Soon after the team of more than 70 officers came on the scene, they told protesters they needed to leave the area and that "this [was] not open for discussion," Reilly tweeted. MSNBC reporter Trymain Lee tweeted that police told the crowd, "Go home, return to your vehicles. The protesters responded, "Mike can't go home!"

"Your right to assembly is not being denied," the police said later over a loudspeaker.

In Ferguson, both sides are in the wrong. I will not pick a side. I choose justice and peace.

Seems more and more conflicts these days don't have a side worth rooting for.

Thanks, Crim. I didn’t know there was a more formal process to it.

Echo to Crim placing the information front and center regarding curfew not in place yet. That council and mayor would be wise to get their hand out from under their butts and draft one (a curfew) quickly. The weekend is approaching fast.

Sorry, I thought you were joining in on this guy’s idiocy.

You’ll have to go back and retrace the discussion I was having with someone else when this guy did a drive-by dumb-dumb. That’s where the “100 million “ism” deaths” came into play.

Government action against an armed rebellion is more than slightly different from cold, calculated, deliberate, systemic, and brutal slaughter by a government of millions of its own innocent citizens in a time of peace as a matter of course.

America is an incredibly exceptional country. If you are looking for perfection this side of Heaven, then join the Socialists who screw 90% of what’s good to supposedly “fix” the 10% they think isn’t “perfect.”

Meant to post this back last night in a timely manner, but my internet connection went down.

The officers are hired to protect the public and preserve the peace. If they ask folks to leave, those folks better leave. Once they defy a lawful police order, and this certainly was one, then they are guilty of a crime.

I'm not talking about an officer asking people to leave.

I'm talking about showing up with military transports and heavy machine guns wearing military desert camouflage uniforms in a downtown area.

What justifies the police to decide on their own to mobilize like that? There needs to be a civilian order to mobilize a massive force like that, if only to forewarn the citizens.

You can argue that the people should have known anyway, but then why do we have city councils and mayors? Since when do they govern by the principle of expecting others to know? They should have stepped up to declare a state of emergency and then tell the people that the police will be there in force.

I read that the council dithered over calling for a curfew, and that was it.

I don't like the idea of a militarized police force taking it upon themselves to deploy heavy weapons within a town limits with their machine guns pointed at the people, without first having a civilian authority on the record as authorizing it.

Police tear gassed the area where Al Jazeeria was set up and they ran off. (Pic from twitter)

Then the police dismantled their equipment.

Note the officer on the left pointing his rifle at the news people just in case they pulled out their assault weapons and tried to mow them down.

No problem....I’m a law and order type of guy....but that does mean I give elected officials or LEO’s a pass on the laws they are bound to follow...

If they declare an emergency and lawfully put a curfew in place and deploy the guard.....they can use deadly force against rioters and looters....just like the LA riots.

>> It is a protest over the police taking more than 3 days to announce that the officer involved in the original shooting was on desk duty

“3 days”? That’s not true.

The officer was placed on paid leave, not desk duty.

There are numerous reports of this. Here’s one from Sunday

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/18-year-old-shot-dead-missouri-witnesses-article-1.1898333

and another

http://www.19actionnews.com/story/26244265/police-missouri-teen-allegedly-assaulted-officer-before-shooting

and others can be found at CNN etc.
