You asked for an interpretation, what follows is not an interpretation, only a thumbnail sketch. It doesn’t need to be interpreted, there are no ‘hidden’ messages in the column.

+++

Her critical question was “Can’t anyone serve Christ in America anymore? “

She showed why America desperately needs missionaries right here at home, citing murder, drug use, out of wedlock births, lack of moral standards, and other facts about our societies collapse. Then she added this;

” If Dr. Brantly had practiced at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles and turned one single Hollywood power-broker to Christ, he would have done more good for the entire world than anything he could accomplish in a century spent in Liberia.”

She went on to provide several other possible answers, including the one which may have caused all the rage, the idea that they might be narcissists.

She concluded by pointing out;

“forgetting that the first rule of life on a riverbank is that any good that one attempts downstream is quickly overtaken by what happens upstream.”

I can still take her argument totally apart and destroy it.

Thanks for the synopsis.

As for Coulter’s hypothetical Hollywood power-broker, the old adage, “You can lead a horse to water...” applies. ‘Living Water’ (the Gospel) and quality medical care are readily available in American. The same is not always true in Africa. And her assertion that if he had “turned one single Hollywood power-broker to Christ, he would have done more good for the entire world than anything he could accomplish in a century spent in Liberia” is made with a 21st century American definition of “A” List-ers, not God’s definition.

God became a man and came to earth to redeem mankind, not in Rome, Alexandria, 19th Century London or Paris, 21st century Manhattan or Hollywood, but among a conquered people in a tiny land on the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea.

Also, there are far, far more folks willing to be witnesses and caregivers, if they can stay in America, than those who are willing to go to the ‘difficult’ places such as Liberia, Haiti or the Muslim world.

The real question is one of calling. I am very grateful to God that He called me & my family to go to remote parts of African and the specific problems there, rather than to Manhattan or Hollywood and their set of hazards. The ‘virtue’ lies in obeying God rather than in the particular place to which He chooses to send you.

I can still take her argument totally apart and destroy it.

Here is the premise of her argument; "Are we allowed to question the motivations of people who claim to serve Christ"?

Have at it.

I’m curious, was my synopsis so scary, or evil, or was it all a matter of hype, similar to those surrounding Rush?

Prepare for utter destruction:

Her critical question was “Can’t anyone serve Christ in America anymore? “

Ann dear, sweetheart, bless your heart….theres 500 American ministers and missionaries in the USA for EVERY ONE overseas. Puh-leeeeze. Besides, theres a world class health care and food delivery system as well. BOOM!!!!!

She showed why America desperately needs missionaries right here at home, citing murder, drug use, out of wedlock births, lack of moral standards, and other facts about our societies collapse.

So what? If you are called overseas, then this is NOT your assignment. Again, WTF is Ann, or YOU baldy, to question peoples' calling? And again, you are conflating service to country with service to God. BOOM, another answer TOTALLY DESTROYED

If Dr. Brantly had practiced at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles and turned one single Hollywood power-broker to Christ, he would have done more good for the entire world than anything he could accomplish in a century spent in Liberia.”

That's a preposterous supposition, and again, WTF is Ann to question Brantley's call? NO ONE!!!!!

She went on to provide several other possible answers, including the one which may have caused all the rage, the idea that they might be narcissists.

Takes one to know one, but again, a totally baseless charge. Hateful, stupid, without any evidence.

“forgetting that the first rule of life on a riverbank is that any good that one attempts downstream is quickly overtaken by what happens upstream.”

What is that rule? From the Quaran? WTF does that have to do with this? It's an arrogant and ignorant thought process, and shame shame shame shame on you for buying into her bullsh-t. BOOM BOOM BOOM you and Ann just got owned.

Again, WTF is Ann, or YOU baldy, to question peoples' calling?

We judge people all the time.

By way of example; we provided financial support to a South American missionary family for many years. Then we visited them, and saw what they were actually doing. Soon after returning, we directed our support elsewhere.

In other words, we not only questioned them, we JUDGED them, firsthand, and found them wanting.

Jim Jones was also on a "mission from God". Are we allowed, in retrospect, to question that?

Your BOOM BOOM apply to Jim Jones, or does the "I'm called" equal the "It's for the children" and no questions allowed?

Or, is even the questioning of a defense of "I'm called" merit a black star?

But neither you nor Ann visited Dr. Brantley, nor do you know him, or support him, so basically you are invited to STFU…unless of course you are a liberal and think you have the right to direct other peoples’ private funds.

Are you? Do you?

You still didn’t lay a glove on the whole “conflating service to country and service to God” point. You can’t. You lose on it, period.

Thanks for conceding the rest of your argument.

I'll be back to you tomorrow and take this last point too.

And stop your frothing, it's unbecoming.

I didn’t concede anything, but again, you didn’t touch the MAIN point.

You are a judgmental ass.

What we are having here is a discussion of them meaning other peoples words.

When challenged, I used the person’s actual words to explain what was said.

You chose to give your desired interpretation of her words as the final judgment of what that person said, and you’ve been very emphatic about it.

In time, you have converted me to your methods.

I’ve judged your words as concession of any arguments you’ve made.

I’ll even adapt your words to close “BOOM BOOM BOOM you just got owned.”

You’re way over your head, you judgmental ass. My wife is probably a much more involved citizen than you are, and she also started a non profit in Africa herself - and it doing great work for God now. You stain your lower than vermin self by besmirching her and people like her.

You know NOTHING. Do not ever post to me again.

Here is the premise of her argument; "Are we allowed to question the motivations of people who claim to serve Christ"?

The answer to that question is obviously "Yes"! Anyone who claims to serve others, whether in civil service, the law, the media or the military must be accountable and examined on a regular basis to ensure their motives and actions are consistent with their claims of service. This is especially true of those who are in Christian ministry. It is best that those doing the evaluation have some idea of the field of service of the individuals being examined. It is also good that the evaluation be done by a multidisciplinary team to avoid individual biases.

After all, who in the ordinary way is likely to injure you for being enthusiastic for good? And if it should happen that you suffer “for righteousness’ sake”, that is a privilege. You need neither fear their threats nor worry about them; simply concentrate on being completely devoted to Christ in your hearts. Be ready at any time to give a quiet and reverent answer to any man who wants a reason for the hope that you have within you. Make sure that your conscience is perfectly clear, so that if men should speak slanderously of you as rogues they may come to feel ashamed of themselves for libelling your good Christian behaviour."
1 Peter 3:13-16 JB Phillips

"You should be looking at yourselves to make sure that you are really Christ’s. It is yourselves that you should be testing, not me. You ought to know by this time that Christ is in you, unless you are not real Christians at all. And when you have applied your test, I am confident that you will soon find that I myself am a genuine Christian. I pray God that you may find the right answer to your test, not because I have any need of your approval, but because I earnestly want you to find the right answer, even if that should make me no real Christian. For, after all, we can make no progress against the truth; we can only work for the truth."
2 Corinthians 13:5-8
