A 41-year-old Georgia mother of seven young children has been rejected as a candidate for a kidney transplant by Emory Healthcare Inc., even though she’s on dialysis and potentially facing death. The reason? The woman, who has already had COVID-19, refused to receive the COVID-19 vaccine on religious and medical grounds. The woman, who will be referred to as Jane Doe to protect her privacy, was referred to Atlanta-based Emory by her nephrologist after suddenly developing end-stage kidney disease, according to Liberty Counsel (LC), a national nonprofit legal organization that’s assisting Doe. The seriousness of Doe’s condition necessitates her undergoing...

Medical education, medical research, and standards of competence have been upended by two related hypotheses: that systemic racism is responsible both for racial disparities in the demographics of the medical profession and for racial disparities in health outcomes.

Former President Jimmy Carter harshly criticized newly appointed Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, calling him "unfit" to serve on the court. Speaking to a class at Emory University in Atlanta on Wednesday, Carter said that Kavanaugh's behavior during his confirmation hearings demonstrated that his appointment was "a very serious mistake," according to Emory's independent, student-run newspaper, The Emory Wheel. "Whether or not [Kavanaugh] attempted to rape [Christine Blasey Ford], I thought he was temperamentally unfit to serve on the Supreme Court because of his outburst during the hearing," Carter said, according to video taken by a student during his remarks....

College professors and their minions lost a presidential election for the first time in eight years and don't know how to handle it. On college campuses, puppies, coloring books and crying towels are all the rage as professors and students alike try to come to terms with the election results. When we go to the Modern Language Association (MLA) convention in January we will be on the lookout for thumb-sucking and security blankets. "It's hard not to see Trump’s triumph as a repudiation of everything that universities stand for: free speech, open inquiry, inclusion, and civility; logic, reason and the...

Emory University President James W. Wagner chalked his own free speech message onto a campus sidewalk after students protested over pro-Donald Trump messages that they said threatened their safety. Students had petitioned the administration to denounce the pro-Trump chalkings that began appearing throughout the Atlanta campus last week, saying the possibility that fellow students could support Mr. Trump made them feel unsafe at school. Roughly 40 students carrying signs such as “Stop Trump” and “Stop Hate” protested outside of the Administrative Building last week, chanting “You are not listening! Come speak with us, we are in pain!” Some students went...

Back in December in an installment of our “Spreading Virus” series about kampus kraziness, when Emory University was presented a list of ridiculous demands from oppressed aggrieved crybully students, we noted the pathetic sniveling reaction from the dean of campus life, Ajay Nair. One highlight of Dean Nair’s capitulation was this: However, today’s activists and other students are growing up in a wonderfully diverse, polycultural global society that increasingly acknowledges and embraces our individual “multidimensionality” as complex beings with many identities. Paraphrasing Gabby Johnson from Blazing Saddles, we said: “That is some authentic academic gibberish!” Dean Nair returns to the...

Last week, a group of about 50 students at Emory University claimed that at an outbreak of pro-Donald Trump sidewalk chalk around campus was “triggering,” racist and damaging to their psychological well-being. Emory president James Wagner then legitimized the complaints, describing words such as “Vote Trump” and “Build the wall” — chalked on cement — as “perceived intimidation.” Over the weekend, students involved in Emory’s Young Americans for Liberty chapter responded to the wailing and gnashing of teeth by the $59,444-per-year private school’s social justice warriors with a new, bigger, better political message in support of Trump, reports Inside Higher...

The billionaire candidate couldn't have created more perfect foils for a candidacy built on resentment. Had Donald Trump's 2016 campaign for the White House somehow infiltrated the ranks of Emory's student activists and blackmailed the university's President James W. Wagner, it could scarcely have orchestrated a spectacle more helpful to Trump's prospects, or damaging to the values that protect vulnerable groups, than what they accomplished on their own this week. After someone wrote "Trump 2016" in colored chalk around campus, several dozen student demonstrators objected that the banal campaign message scared, upset, or offended them, and administrators responded by going...

After the GOP frontrunner's name was written in chalk on a campus wall, students said they 'feared for their lives.' The school vowed to identify the taggers. But professors at the school are now pushing back. Support for Donald Trump in the form of chalk markings on campus at Emory College sent the university into a tailspin this week, with the administration scrambling to appease students who felt threatened by the sudden scourge of pro-Trump scribblings on school grounds. Early Monday, students say, they were "attacked" by Trump's name in large, pastel letters on campus walkways and buildings. "Vote for...

Are these kids for real? The whining, spoiled, overly-entitled, coddled Snowflake Generation has struck again. As reported in the media yesterday.. The president of Emory University has met with 40 to 50 student demonstrators who said they were concerned and frightened after someone wrote “Trump 2016” in chalk on campus sidewalks and some buildings. Sounds like a real crime, “Trump 2016” written in chalk, imagine that. That’s just awful. To quote Gunnery Sergeant in Full Metal Jacket, “What is their major malfunction?” Jim Wagner, president of the elite Atlanta university, wrote Tuesday that the students viewed the messages as intimidation,...

The president of Emory University has spoken to demonstrators who said they were frightened after someone wrote 'Trump 2016' in chalk around campus. Students at the Atlanta school, which has an enrollment of more than 14,000 claim their 'safe space' was violated when the messages appeared on sidewalks and buildings. Jim Wagner, president of the Atlanta university, wrote Tuesday that the students viewed the messages as intimidation, and they voiced 'genuine concern and pain' as a result. He acted after student government wrote to him and slammed the university's response, prompting a meeting that led to protests. Now administrators want...

Professor Jacobson recently wrote about how Donald Trump’s rise is driving countless people into the offices of mental health professionals. The latest example of Trump induced psychosis is unfolding at Emory University where students were horrified this week to find someone took a piece of chalk and wrote pro-Trump messages on campus sidewalks. The horror! Rather than simply ignoring this like any normal person would do, certain activists within the student body are demanding that the university president denounce this message of hate. Yes, really. The Emory Wheel reports: Emory Students Express Discontent With Administrative Response to Trump Chalkings Students...

UPDATE (3/22 at 9:49 p.m.): The following day, University President James W. Wagner, as well as representatives from College Council (CC) and Student Government Association (SGA) sent emails to the Emory community to address student concerns and responses. In his University-wide email, Wagner wrote that he intends to implement “immediate refinements to certain policy and procedural deficiencies, regular and structured opportunities for difficult dialogues, a formal process to institutionalize identification, review and [the] addressing of social justice opportunities and issues and a commitment to an annual retreat to renew our efforts.” Wagner added in his email that the previous day’s...

Police lights on Clifton Road illuminated the silhouettes of standing students, who were blocking traffic and chanting “black lives matter†as part of a campus protest on Wednesday evening. In response to recent unrest at the University of Missouri, at Yale University and in South Africa, undergraduate and graduate students voiced their concerns about race relations on Emory’s campus. “So make sure that when you walk on this campus that we are heard,†said protest organizer and College senior Casidy Campbell to the wall of over 50 students in front of Woodruff Circle....

Investigations have been launched at two universities over accusations that fraternity members taunted wounded war heroes, urinated on an American flag, and spit on a wounded veteran and his service dog in Panama City Beach, Florida. The April 17 incident, involving Zeta Beta Tau fraternity members from the University of Florida and Emory University, has infuriated residents of Panama City. [Snip] ... the fraternity members were staying in the same resort [as 100 combat-wounded warriors and their spouses]– and caused a night of mayhem. The college kids made derogatory comments about the warriors’ wives, threw items off balconies and desecrated...

A U.S. healthcare worker who had been in West Africa and may have been exposed to the Ebola virus is being transferred to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, a hospital spokeswoman said on Wednesday. The patient will be monitored and observed for signs of infection. The hospital said it did not have a time of arrival and was unable to share more details "out of respect for patient privacy and in accordance with the patient's wishes." It did not say where the patient is currently located or when he or she returned to the United States.

Submitted by Brandon Smith of Alt-Market.com, One of the most dangerous philosophical contentions even amongst liberty movement activists is the conundrum of government force and prevention during times of imminent pandemic. All of us at one time or another have had this debate. If a legitimate viral threat existed and threatened to infect and kill millions of Americans, is it then acceptable for the government to step in, remove civil liberties, enforce quarantines, and stop people from spreading the disease? After all, during a viral event, the decisions of each individual can truly have a positive or negative effect on...

At least 4,877 people have died in the world's worst recorded outbreak of Ebola, and at least 9,936 cases of the disease had been recorded as of Oct. 19, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Wednesday, but the true toll may be three times as much. The WHO has said real numbers of cases are believed to be much higher than reported: by a factor of 1.5 in Guinea, 2 in Sierra Leone and 2.5 in Liberia, while the death rate is thought to be about 70 percent of all cases. That would suggest a toll of almost 15,000.
