I think the environmental claim is based on how much water they use to grow it.

Here in California that is a big deal. In many other states probably not so much.

Heres a thought — how about THC pills. Oh that’s right there benefits to smoking weed directly. According to the proponents.

I care more for having empty beds in prisons, not having doors kicked down over a trivial vice, not having property seized, and not having family pets shot.

I really don’t care how bad pot is for those who smoke it, any more than I care how bad alcohol is for those drink (not to mention sugar and high fructose corn syrup), or how bad tobacco is for those who smoke it.

They’ve all been warned. Its their problem.

Re: “The Growers Don't Want It to Be Legal”

In Washington state, legal retailers must charge a minimum price per gram.

Legal retailers can charge more if they like, but the minimum price is approximately equal to the illegal price in neighboring states.

Why?

Washington state fears that non-residents will load up on legal weed, then return to their home state and sell it for a profit.

Washington state also restricts the amount of marijuana that can be produced by legal growers.

The state has estimated the amount of weed that is consumed each year in Washington, and they will try to cap legal production at exactly that amount.

I don’t mind the 1-2% that are real bad medical needs, it’s the other 98% or so of drug addict recreational losers that are the problem.

The People legalized it, not the legislature.

True.

However:

What action was taken by the legislators in support of the Proposition? I think you will find that many favored it, and tax revenue was one major reason.

The legislators, in general, reflect the thinking of the people who elected them. In this case, that is not good.

Propositions often reflect a 'hands off' approach by the legislators so as to avoid making tough decisions. This reflects a failure of the legislators as much as a desire of the voters to either get high, or not care of people do.

Medicinal marijuana is BS, it is an excuse, not a reason.

Just for the record: I favor full legalization of pot. If I want to grow pot in my backyard and smoke it, alone or with friends, it is none of the governments bu$ine$$.

You have learned your hogwash MJ talking points well, grasshopper so it is useless to attempt to rebut.

However, your last sentence was obliterated by an article written in Colorado just this last week about the underground pot business flourishing because people will buy from the cheapest supplier which so happens to NOT be your friendly dope dealer with a store front and license.

We are destined for a society that fulfills the verse to that song; “Everybody must get stoned”.

Yeah right.

Hydro doesn’t use a 10th of the water required for an outside grow. Much the same as growing veggies hydroponic.

Yes and the people who engage in those activities are, generally speaking, nasty people who are into many other nasty things.

Agreed.

Although, I really think there needs to be a campaign funded by the revenues generated from legal use to make it crystal clear that smoking raw, unfiltered MJ is harmful.

Thanks to the campaign to push legalized pot, most people think that it is safe to use.

Will it make a difference? Probably not. Not any more or less than all of the cigs warnings. Although, fewer and fewer people people seem to be smoking tobacco these days. So maybe it is effective.

If you want to find out about the dangers of weed talk to a trial lawyer. I think the marijuana industry will become a litigation machine for the trial lawyers.

There is no huge pot of gold for the states to reap if pot were totally legal.

Nobody is going to get rich selling a product as easy to grow as a tomato plant. Make it legal and everyone would grow their own.

Re: “The legislators, in general, reflect the thinking of the people who elected them.”

Someone should mention that to G.W. Bush, John McCain, Marco Rubio, John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, and Paul Ryan.

No doubt about it.

There will be a “Marijuana Master Settlement Agreement” just like the previous “Tobacco Agreement.”

The price of legal reefer will double overnight, with half going to the states, and the other half going to the lawyers.

Then, the individual lawsuits will start against individual growers or retailers, even though the Master Settlement will “forbid” individual lawsuits.

Those were well written rubuttal points.

Whatever one thinks about M.J.; it should be pretty obvious that a legal, and well-regulated industry is likely to be better, on every measure, than an illegal, underground industry run by criminal organizations (the criminal organizations excepted).

Substitute “alcohol” for “pot”, and you’ll see what I mean.

This is a remarkably thorough and well-researched article, and I applaud the diligence of the author.

This a far better piece than pretty much anything you see in the main stream media, about pot or otherwise.

Nobody is going to get rich selling a product as easy to grow as a tomato plant.

Tomatoes are a multi-billion dollar industry in the US =>

Fresh and processed tomatoes account for more than $2 billion in annual farm cash receipts.

Make it legal and everyone would grow their own.

CA has allowed medical mj patients to grow their own since 1997, yet the state annually collects $100M in taxes on $1B in sales. Business is booming!
