'Groceries Not Guns': Will Kroger Back Down To Bloomberg-Funded Gun Control Group?
Forbes ^ | 8/12/2014 | Clare O'Connor

Target [TGT -0.03%]. Chipotle. Sonic. Chili’s Grill & Bar. Jack in the Box. Starbucks [SBUX -0.25%].

Each time gun safety groups Moms Demand Action and new partner Everytown For Gun Safety have taken on a retail or restaurant chain in recent months, they’ve been successful.

The pattern generally goes thusly: the groups, led by mother-of-five Shannon Watts and bolstered by $50 million from Michael Bloomberg, start a petition...

Recently the article "Open-carry fight moves to Kroger" appeared in Free Republic. This is an update, if you will, that provides valuable insight into how these activists are managing to push these businesses to cave in to their demands.

What can we do to counter this? How do we set up our own petition or a public boycott? I've more questions and I'm sure you will be able to think of them for me. If we can find a way of torpedoing their efforts, maybe we should show them we have more clout than they do.

I'll come back to join in later today. I need to crash, go to church, return and rejoin the discussion sometime after lunch CDST. (I'm hoping my research regarding Forbes' articles and Ms O'Connor not being on any lists was good enough to permit me to share what I learned earlier this morning.)

Could you please correct the publish date? It was SUPPOSED to be 8/25, not 8/12. Thanks

If people like “Moms Demand @$$kissing” and other gun grabbers weren’t always portraying gun owners as boogeymen ready to fly off at the drop of a hat, things like this wouldn’t be necessary.

I wonder what they would say if someone pointed that out to their face.

If the “blingy” (I’ve got a gun look at me) open carry people would keep their gun in their pants we could be discussing something else. This isn’t about the second amendment, it’s about gun bling. Children do things like this, real men carry concealed...quiet, unsupposing and deadly. I frequently even carry into gun-free zones on purpose (Goodyear Tire) ...nobody knows but me. Never have been challenged. Great feeling of satisfaction, screw their sign in the door....and then I buy my tires at Firestone where my dealer also carries concealed.

But but but but... a right not exercised is a right lost...

Bull squeeze... Because you can does not mean you should...

The nimrods in TX who open carried long guns into Target didn’t do ANYTHING but scare the soccer moms and thus begin the discussion to ban ALL guns in Target...

I CC every single day... There are literally a handful of people who know I’m armed and I like it that way...

Open carry is a POOR tactical decision IMHO...

Facts don’t matter when you deal with vacuous, emotional idiots. If it makes them “feel” better then by all means it’s ok and the rest of us be damned...

To answer the original post... Boycotts don’t work... Find a local store that supports your right to carry and patronize them and LET IT BE KNOWN to company XXX that you are supporting their competition...

Could you imagine 1000’s of flyers being delivered to the local Kroger by 2A supporters informing them that they are now shopping down the street at a competitor?

So far, every business targeted by Nags Demand Action has issued a “Please don't open carry” statement but has NOT changed actual policy or posted No Gun signs that would invoke legal standing in certain states. So let the Nags bluster and I'll continue to believe that concealed is concealed.

Please people don’t carry a long gun into businesses so you can say look at me. I CCL 24/7 365 and no one knows or cares as long as they don’t see it. If there is a no carry sigh on the door of a business I go some where else and there the ones that lose my dollars. Have not been in a mall in years and don’t go to movies as their gun free zones. A gun free zone is a free fire zone where I can not join in. No thanks!

If I’m out and about with my beloved, and we have to stop in a kroger store, I do not care what their pansy attitude is, it’s still my life and that of my beloved’s, that is more important to me, than some low IQ twit in a store apron.

Note, in AZ Kroger owns Fry’s Marketplace, which has no affiliation that I know of with Fry’s Electronics.

There was a time when one would have went in, selected a bunch of merchandise, let them ring it up and about then ask ‘What does that sign mean at the door?’ and when Mz or Mr Bubbly Personality says something like
“that means those clowns have to leave their guns outside or they can’t come in”,
Casually put your card or cash back in pocket and say “Surely you didn’t just call me a clown did you? - Just go ahead and cancel that sale”

Would imagine with the influx of new, improved laws etc there would be a penalty for doing that.....

Yes.
Open carry in most instances is unsmart. Out of sight, out of mind.
