During the Second World War, Attenborough served in the Royal Air Force. After initial pilot training he was seconded to the newly formed RAF Film Unit at Pinewood Studios, under the command of Flight Lieutenant John Boulting (whose brother Peter Cotes would later direct Attenborough in the play The Mousetrap) where he appeared with Edward G. Robinson in the propaganda film Journey Together (1943). He then volunteered to fly with the Film Unit and after further training, where he sustained permanent ear damage, qualified as a sergeant, flying on several missions over Europe filming from the rear gunner’s position to record the outcome of Bomber Command sorties.[7]

Yes, he was a fine actor. Did a lot of WWII movies.
His brother is the well-known Nature guy called Attenborough
One of the greats. RIP.
Lovely to see someone mentioning Brighton Rock.
He is electric as Pinky, the film is one of the three best UK crime films of all time imo.
Yep.
Watch The League of Gentlemen too. Or Séance on a Wet Afternoon.
I think Rillington filmically is superb, but I have a severe problem with it, as I believe Evans was guilty, and the film is based on one book on the case, which imo was biased and selective.
I will expand further if you wish.
Oh, What a lovely war!
A superb piece of anti-war propaganda written by an avowed Communist designed to undermine British patriotism and which has been almost entirely responsible for rewriting the actual history of what was a magnificent military victory achieved by an initially hopelessly outclassed British Army that went on to smash a previously invincible German army.
Is that the movie to which you refer?
He may have been guilty. There seems to be constant reevaluation over him. I read Ludovic what’s his name’s book years ago - grisly, to say the least.
I think this movie helped Hurt’s career in the USA. As always, RA was superb!
The first time I saw Brighton Rock, I was in shock, absolute shock. If I could have killed poor RA (or Pinky) I would have!
