Cop Hits Man in the Head 20 Times as Onlookers Plead 'Don't Punch Him No More'

Once the cops have pinned a non-violent suspect to the ground, how many times are they allowed to punch him in the head? Is it fewer than 20? I would say so, but I'm not a Greenville County, South Carolina, deputy.

Greenville officers approached a man at a Walmart parking lot on Saturday. The man appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and didn't respond to police questions or instructions. Eventually, the officers followed the man inside the store, where they attempted to detain him. The deputies claim the man resisted, though video footage of the incident certainly makes said resistance look passive, rather than violent. But once the two cops had the man on the ground, one of them immediately began punching him in the head. I count at least 20 blows.

Onlookers were horrified, and begged the deputies to stop. Many thought the treatment of the man was cruel, according to WSPA.com. "Please don't punch him like that, don't punch him no more," said one witness. (More video footage can be seen here.)

The man was eventually tasered and then taken to the hospital. Police have not given his name or explained what the charges against him are. The department is reviewing the footage, however, to determine whether the deputy acted properly when he punched a helpless man in the head over and over and over again.

That’s why they were pissed. No dog to shoot.

Explains it all.

I don't have a problem with that. Will certainly need new hiring/training criteria.

What is going on today isn't working at any level, or for anyone, except the cops and the government.

Citizens be damned.

The cop should have just shot him. That wouldn’t have upset the lookers on so much. Oh, and then he should have said to whoever, “I felt threatened.”

Doing it in front of a crowd is unbelievably stupid..

It isn't stupid when he knows he knows that his chief will back him up as will the other cops. Hie didn't shoot the fellow so he won't get his Paid Vacation reward, though.

Resisting. So the punishment for not obeying the jack booted master is a full on beating?
Wow, I mean. . . if he were being pursued after a serious crime that’s one thing.
But the guy isn’t going to make it far.
He’s a slug.
I hate this “obey or get beat” mentality.
Cops need to learn and exercise appropriate discretion.

After budget reductions, they can look for jobs.

I don't care, much.

Did you see how the cop paused to cop a bit and then proceeded to continue beating the everliving crap out of this dude.

Once an officer has a man restrained and submissive there is no need for more force to meet out some sort of punishment. They need to throw the cop in the slammer and let him do some hard time for a whole and get his mind right. Glad they got it on video.

Video here. Judge for yourself.

To be fair, the video wouldn't show if he sassed the cop.

If the command was to lie face down, he wasn’t complying. In fact he was resisting.

What would you have done if you were the cop?

First of all, all cops don’t handle situations as this.
Some of them make others have to take the brunt of criticisms.

And, I have no idea what was happening, was he going for the gun. I am sure the officer that swung those extra blows will be in a serious investigation, if I were his commander, anyway. I have seen officers hit people in the head repeatedly to get the suspect down.

And the woman in the pink, should had not been walking around that situation with her drama. If I had been a officer, I would had all that I could had done, not to tell her to move back.

Glad the man got up and walked out. I am sure this situation will not be over for him nor the police department.

Sassing cops is now unlawful, and the cop gets to administer a beatdown?

Strangely the only thing I could think of was how weak the cops punches looked, I doubt that dough-nut munching blue boy could punch his way out of a paper bag. That said, he was way out of line hitting that guy like that.

My thought was, "that guy punches like my sister."

‘The government ain’t paying for PhDs’

Based on some of the salary and especially benefits packages of some Law Enforcement officers, we are paying for PHDs’.

I don’t think firing them is enough. Nor for their bosses who have built this mess.

Cutting PD budgets will probably get that fixed.

And if it doesn't, well, we can cut some more, until it works.
