President Barack Obama faced a tough crowd on Tuesday – American military veterans – and fell flat on his applause lines as he failed to win over the American Legion's convention-goers.
The 35-minute speech seemed to have reminded the audience of the stark divide between the White House's policy choices and the feelings of the men and women often called on to carry them out.
A Virginia legionnaire who served in the U.S. Marine Corps told MailOnline that 'a small group of Obama's admirers – and there are some here – sat near the front and tried to generate applause for him about 10 times.'.....
Most of the veterans sat on their hands, leaving awkward silences where White House speechwriters expected ovations. ......
......After the customary introductions and thank-yous to dignitaries, Obama spoke for nearly eight full minutes on Tuesday without a single clap.
He touted his foreign policy bona fides, boasting that 'even countries that criticize us – when the chips are down and they need help, they know who to call. They call us. That's what American leadership looks like.'
Silence.
'Sustaining our leadership, keeping America strong and secure, means we have to use our power wisely,' Obama cautioned, in keeping with his slow approach to battling ISIS and other terror groups overseas.
'History teaches us of the dangers of overreaching and spreading ourselves too thin, and trying to go it alone without international support, or rushing into military adventures without thinking through the consequences.'
Crickets.
'You know that we should never send America's sons and daughters into harm's way unless it is absolutely necessary and we have a plan and we are resourcing it and prepared to see it through.'
Tepid clapping followed pregnant seconds of emptiness.
'We removed more than 140,000 troops from Iraq and welcomed those troops home. It was the right thing to do.'
Nothing.....

Me thinks Obama will be going back to a hand picked crowd
When the Chinese write the history of the fall of America, they will wonder how we inflicted 0bama on ourselves.
That’s for certain.
It would be one thing if the Obama supporters only hurt themselves, but they hurt all of us and that irks me to no end.
This bastards wearing thin with many people....he is not one to be trusted or believed!!!
I watched some of it on TV and they were bored out of their noggins, lol, plus they know he lies. We’ve all seen ‘rapt’ audiences, but this audience was ‘in motion’, shifting, looking around, whispering, and one lady was rolling her head around to exercise her neck - I guess.
It was funny to watch their ‘clapps’ as they seemed slow motion - and an effort. Obama has a mean look anymore and you can tell he doesn’t want to be doing what he’s doing.
I would have thought they would have given up on Obama though since he's either blown them off or sent Biden in the past. He really doesn't care about the military or the veterans except as campaign props.
As a vet, I am disappointed that the members didn’t stand up an turn their back on him> He is no longer their CIC.

I really doubt the WH speechwriters expected ovations from THIS crowd. He was playing to another audience that wasn’t in the arena.
On Friday, I was staying in Constitution Marina next to the mooring of the USS Constitution. Imagine my delight when that wonderful ship left it’s mooring and headed south towards the Boston Harbor. It was not in full sail but had some sail showing with a good south breeze pushing it along. The next day I asked the seaman as we went on board where it was going. “A harbor island, M’am.” Why? “To fire a 21 gun salute, m’am.” For whom? “For the island m’am.” Mr. Mercat assumed that the resident had flown in from Martha’s Vineyard.
If he resigned before the midterms, the running DemoncRats might be helped.
They include expanded suicide prevention programs, new research funding for science that could change treatments for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and a mandate that the Pentagon and VA provide a seamless transition for servicemen and women who receive mental health treatment and medications.
In other words, “We’ll give more money to educated eggheads and bureaucrats, but screw the troops.”
Obama does things because he can. He was back in DC for one day. And he’s out giving speeches again. How can anyone take his leadership seriously anymore?
Why even bother to invite him in the first place? What’s the point of that? His disastrous reign over the last five years and our diminished posture in the world have already spoken. We are screwed.

Obama should have been booed off the stage. NOT ONE THING has been done to prosecute or even so much as fire those VA officials who falsified waiting lists to get their bonuses. That is criminal fraud. They also should be held liable for those vets who died as a result of their malfeasance. Obama has proposed nothing that would bring these people to justice or seriously reform the VA. Quite frankly veterans would be far better off if the VA hospital system were dismantled and they could get their care from the providers of their choice. VA benefits should be like Medicare.
I, too let them know how I feel. I consider them the enemy because they are.
Nothing.....
