I agree with you about seat belts. The are numerous examples of them saving lives. The questions I have about lifelock services are around what they are doing that I’m not already doing myself.
I have had an experience with a Bank card being skimmed. The Bank was proactive by de-activating the card. They never notified the customer. We found out several days later when we tried to use the card. We filed a police report, and it took several more days for the detectives to get the ATM videos. Needless to say, the bank was more worried about their exposure than they were about catching the criminals. I no longer do business with that bank. This is because IMHO the customer does not come first but covering their eventual lost did.

Me, too. Hackers wouldn't bother with my bank. Chase and the other big banks give the hackers much more bang for the buck (pun intended).

I never understood that if you put some money in the bank, you have to get Life Lock (now Life Lock Super Advantage Ultimate Plus with less fat)for $325 a year to protect what the bank should be protecting..

The easiest and most effective thing someone can do to protect themselves is to go online to all of their accounts and set all of the notification settings to automatically send an email for EVERY transaction that exceeds some threshold. I set my thresholds all to $100.00. I now receive an email for every transaction for over $100.00 so monitoring my accounts occurs continuously and conveniently and FREE!
Chase is new in our neighborhood having taken over WAMU. They called me twice trying to get me to do some business with them but the guy they sent in as a manager was too young and dumb to know his own system, conversations proved. But I’ve used two other banks for over half a century. I do not bank Online and my banks are under strict instructions to NEVER make any of my bank info available anyplace online. The local managers understand that if any of my dope EVER turns up online or any other place that ain’t me the next thing that will happen is one of my bulldozers will be remodeling their lobby first thing next morning. Sometimes they loan me money to buy equipment so they know I can do it. No sense of humor here about financial security. About a half century ago my ól’ Mom nearly shut down one of the local banks over one of the tellers shooting her mouth off about how much money another customer had. My Mom covered a lot of ground and she had people pulling money out of that bank by the bucket full. The bank Pres spent years sweet talking Mom to get her back but the damage was done. A few banks might need to burn if they don’t get serious about this personal financial security thing.
And by the way-—can somebody tell me why any bank would have to wire their entire record system into the internet to do business? My guess is they are fundamentally lazyass and cheap?

Another day, another reason to bank at a small, locally owned bank. They will even call me if they get a check for something that is out of my usual spending type (like clothes instead of books). I am a name, not a number.
LOL. Same here. My family has been banking there for over 100 years. I call up and they know me.
My small bank actually has free checking and bill paying. I’ve had great service for years and feel for those folk who use them big-city banks.
Ditto here. The on-line bill pay is a real time saver: they cut the check, they supply the envelope, they even pay the postage. Use it all the time.
Been using this bank since 2003 and haven’t had any problems.
They make you feel like you’re part of their family. The woman at the drive through at the branch I use most often has been with the bank 18 years.

I hate Nigerian scams, they're bottom feeders and scum! Anyway, a close friend of my wife sticks her money in glass jars and buries them in her yard. And she was stupid enough to tell us. If you're going to do it, only tell your children! And swear them to secrecy. It can't be much money, as her house is decrepit and in need of repair. Anyway, I believe in putting your money in real estate, and not just shoving it into land (dirt). If you want to stick valuables in the ground, buy guns, grease them up and insert in waterproof wrappings into PVC pipes and bury them. That will be more valuable than depreciating cash.
