Academic Org Lets Members Choose Any Of Six Genders

The American Sociological Association, the leading professional organization for American sociologists, is now granting its members much greater leeway in how to define their gender identities.

Previously, the ASA’s membership surveys only allowed three choices of gender: “male,” “female” and “prefer not to answer.”

Now, as reported at Inside Higher Ed, members will have no fewer than seven options for their gender choice, with the added ability to select “all that apply.” The added options include “transgender male/transgender man,” “transgender female/transgender woman,” “genderqueer/gender non-conforming,” or another “preferred identity” of their choice not explicitly named.

“Genderqueer” is defined by the Gender Equity Resource Center at the University of California-Berkeley as “A person whose gender identity is neither man nor woman, is between or beyond genders, or is some combination of genders.”

The new gender choices are the end product of over a year of debate on how to expand the sociological community’s gender options.

True, six genders doesn’t even begin to cover the absolutely critical details of so many people’s sex lives.
We need multi dimensional matrixes, taxa an phyla structures, and a comprehensive coding system to keep track of it all.
And all employers need to know it all in detail to avoid embarrassing fax pas, and subsequent expensive lawsuits. I mean, imagine what would happen if the word “gerbil” was said to the wrong person, or if it wasn’t said to the right person?

How dare you !
I am a cat trapped in a human body and you are obligated to respect my essential feline nature!
I would sue you at once if I knew who you are!

The english "sex" derives from the latin "sexus" from "seco", "to cut", which refers to the division of humans and animals into male and female types. It's my impression that the latin "sexus" did not carry any of the semantic load that "sex" does in english. I have a book, THE LATIN SEXUAL VOCABULARY, which details all sorts of interesting and creative terminology concerning the genitalia and the various acts related thereto, but has a single mention of "sexus", which was not evidently a very sexy term. It referred to a simple fact of life preserved for us in the expression, "vive la difference".

So it's interesting to me that in our usage, "sex" has come to mean "sexual activity", of whatever form, and we have resorted to the term of "gender", or "kind", which lends itself to multifarious interpretation, effectively abolishing "sex" per se.

Oh, that’s not GENDER, that’s Species Identification. That would make you “Otherkin”. . .

(Ran into an academic who actually believed this stuff .. .)

Actually an awesome concept. Guaranteed to destroy gender affirmative action in the long run. Right now over 50% of med school classes are female. Now a dude can put in ALL OF THE ABOVE scream discrimination if not picked.

The ASA and APA are the publisher’s clearing houses of the “studies” that are used to formulate education, our military standards, and whatever else the government has its claws sunk into. Follow the money trail. Grants to universities equals find the answer you want by whatever means will not be easily identifiable and thereby receive more grants.

Jesus is our standard, not the statistical deviation of the norm of fallen mankind.

They won’t be happy until they get to the 50 or so choices one can find at Facebook, at which point the whole concept of “gender” becomes meaningless.

I don’t often offer my services as a consultant for free, but I’m happy to do so here because it will be ignored. But all they need do is change the designation header from “gender” to “sex” (wouldn’t that be wonderfully retro) and then provide two choices: “has Y chromosome” or “does not have Y chromosome”. Okay, they can provide an “other” for the extremely rare biological deviations from that dualism.

Libs are always baitching about how those on the right deny science, yet when given an opportunity to handle something controversial in a scientifically objective way, they run from it like the plague.

There are two sexes, not genders.

This classification is so archaic.... It doesn't even cover beastiality. And then of course for the beastiality people some like donkeys some like Collies some white German Shepherds.

It just seems like in today's modern America the choices are endless!

What do they do with all of this critical information?

I am just thinking of the poor bastard who has to set up and maintain the database that is constantly changing. Who knew that you needed more than a m/f in the field when it was written.

As someone who hates government interference I feel like these six choices are discriminatory...

There should be an option of: None of the G-D Damned Business....

(sarc)

Of course I find it hilarious that libs who whine about labels love to create new labels and attach them to people if it fits their screwball agenda...
