I don’t know Senate rules, but it seems that it couldn’t be an inherited position. There has to be some kind of election.

Sessions should run and conservatives should rise up to support him

If you ask John Cornyn, he’ll tell you it’s his turn! If Cornyn has top job, amnesty will be approved. He doesn’t care about the citizens in Texas, let alone in the rest of the United States.

Our family quit supporting him during the last election.

Sad to say you're likely right. There seems to be an attitude in both house with the GOP that we'll appoint the most incompetent idiots as leader or else. Sessions would as SML would ruin their bipartisan ruling class oligarchy. If Mitch wasn't put in or Cornyn you can almost bet DEMs best friend Corker would be. He would be a bigger disaster than Frist was in that respect. I'd love to see Sessions as SML though.
