Breaking: Obama to delay immigration action until voters can’t punish Democrats for it
hotair.com ^ | 9/6/14 | Ed Morrissey

Is this really “breaking news” if it was sadly predictable all along? The AP thought so:

They lead the actual story by emphasizing that Barack Obama broke a promise by kicking this can down the road:

Abandoning his pledge to act by the end of summer, President Barack Obama has decided to delay any executive action on immigration until after the November congressional elections, White House officials said.

The move is certain to infuriate immigration advocates while offering relief to some vulnerable Democrats in tough Senate re-election contests.

Two White House officials said Obama concluded that circumventing Congress through executive actions on immigration during the campaign would politicize the issue and hurt future efforts to pass a broad overhaul.

Ahem. The issue of politicization comes primarily from circumventing Congress, not just the timing of it. However, this makes the entire project look a lot more political now. If it’s the right thing to do, why hasn’t Obama done it already? Isn’t that what “leadership” is supposed to be about? Why would it be the wrong thing to do in early September but the right thing to do in late November?

As far as worrying about the damage it will do to “pass[ing] a broad overhaul,” that’s an argument for not issuing unilateral decrees at all. Does anyone believe that Congress will take the short period of time between now and the election to pass a massive comprehensive-immigration bill? They’ll be lucky to pass a continuing resolution that will take the federal budget to December in that time frame. After the election, attention will return to the rest of the FY2015 budget. Any movement on immigration would have to wait until the next session of Congress, and everyone knows it.

There’s precedent. Reagan waited until one day after the 1986 midterms to sign amnesty.

I think Reagan was the best, but he wasn’t perfect and he had to get along with the GOPe who didn’t like him.

Obama’s domestic lawlessness and feckless international policy has the collective Democrat teat in a wringer. Their internals must be horrendous.

That’s the mantra and the goal of the Establishment of both parties.

Collectively, I think of them as the Kleptocrats.

Why

do it.

“The GOPe does not want to win the Senate in 2014? Or do you mean the GOPe wants to protect Obama?”

Obama and the US Senate have been shielding each other, especially since the Republicans took the House. If the House passes something, Obama will say “I will veto that” so Harry Reid says “well, there’s no point in even going through the motions of passing that.” And the other side of the coin, the Senate passes nothing the House passes, and Obama can say, “Hey, it wasn’t me, I never got a bill to sign.”

McConnell and the Establishment republicans have helped in this, by undermining the more conservative House at every turn. They have seized the power of the purse from the House in that Harry Reid will say “it’s all or nothing, either pass what we want or it’s a shutdown.” And then McConnell and Boehner get all jittery and the senate gets its way, with people like Boehner, McConnell and Paul Ryan helping him, with deals, and assistance with cloture votes, etc.

And this year, the Republican Establishment has gone all out to protect the Senate, that is from conservatives getting into the Senate. All the Establishment nominees, either the incumbents or the open seats, will vote for McConnell for leader and will vote for cloture when necessary.

And all of this to put the most pressure on the House to pass bills that keep the gravy train flowing. Deficits have gone up. Debt has gone up. Not a single agency, board or department has been cut at all, and even the sequester has been eliminated and those “cuts” restored.

To answer your question, I think the GOP does want to win the Senate, so they’ll have power and chairs of the committees, etc. But they will be allied with Obama against the House, that is, the conservatives and the people. They want to pass Amnesty desperately, and their joint aim is to thwart and destroy ANY conservative opposition to “the way things are done.”

Protecting the Senate has been a big key to that. The democrats want to maintain their shield protecting Obama, and the republicans want to maintain their shield against the conservatives, by being able to say “sorry little Jimmy conservative, but your proposal will never become law, will not even get through the Senate. There just aren’t the votes, so why don’t you join us in our proposals, and together we can ‘get things done’.”

These are the whispers in the ears. It’s been plain to see for the past two years.

Don’t forget that that was the case with Øbamacare - it was hugely unpopular from the start and relied on the lamestreamers to artificially inflate support.

No surprise here. The factors at play were Obama's ego, as in "I'll do what I want regardless of what anyone thinks", and the always present political calculations. It's important to him to keep the Senate.

Agree. It's not like a few months' delay on the formal pronouncement of amnesty makes an iota of difference. We have de facto amnesty right now, and have had it for some time.

This admnistration has basically ordered a standdown on the enforcement of any immigration law--except, maybe, those affecting brilliant scientists from Finland. The only role federal agencies take in immigration is as concierge, assisting illegals in their seamless integration into our society--relocating and getting their every need and want provided, courtesy of the American taxpayer.

Obama does, as you said, exactly as he pleases. And his pleasure, all along, has been amnesty.

Hey, lo-info, he waits to burden you with something that he knows you DON’T want - amnesty - to keep dims from being blamed for it. But, REMEMBER, they ARE to blame.

Still unemployed? This is why and they plan to make it even worse.

The GOPe wants to do the exact same thing. They’re often even more to blame for it, because they campaigned—and continue to campaign—against supporting amnesty, while plotting to do the exact opposite.

This shameless and open playing politics on this issue should infuriate every Repubican candidate and voter, and triple their determination to win the Senate and oppose Obama on immigration and most all issues.

But who knows how the feckless Republican ‘leadership’ will react to this opportunity.

Liberals call them "undocumented immigrants" I call them "undocumented serial killers and terrorists." How would liberals know? They aren't checked out.

You nailed that but good.

Eye-opening exchanges on this topic at the recent House Judiciary hearing on immigration.

<><> Patriot Cong Randy Forbes said Americans need to know if violent gang members are walking their streets. Forbes asked Obama appointee Leon Rodrigues---whether the agency asked applicants about gang membership---and when they invariably reply no, how does the agency know whether it's true or not?

The calculated Rodriguez would not reveal information---Forbes insisted on knowing "do you even ask them if they're gang members."

<><> Even more interesting was watching brilliant Cong Louie Gohmert (Rep-Tx) set the trap for the oily Rodriguez.

Former judge Gohmert's brilliant circumlocution was awesome. He nailed the mealy-mouth Rodrigues to the wall.

CONG GOHMERT: WRT drug cartels paid $6-10,000 to "guide" the hordes over the border---"Would you, as a former prosecutor, call them criminals?," he nonchalantly asked Gonzales.

The smirking Rodrigues stepped headlong into the trap as Cong Gohmert casually hoisted him on his own petard.....making the point that if the hordes were coming here to escape drug cartels, why is it they consort w/ the criminals, and pay the violent breed to get over the border?

====================================================

It's even worse than we think---USCIS rubber-stamper Leon Rodriguez, a recent Obama appointee, oversees the legitimization of the border swarm.....emanating from 144 countries.

Rodriguez also administers EB-5 visas as head of USCIS (A DHS agency).....EB-5's are said to involve major threats to US national security:

BACKSTORY In an earlier statement----citing a Homeland Security Investigations memo----Sen Charles Grassley said the oversight federal agency ICE identified key vulnerabilities in EB-5 visas:

1) Export of sensitive technology/economic espionage.

2) Use by foreign government agents/espionage.

3) Use by terrorists.

4) Investment fraud by regional center.

5) Investment fraud by investors.

6) Fraud conspiracies by investors and regional center.

7) Illicit finance/money laundering.

==================================================

Rodriguez's confirmation hearings revealed he was a board member of Casa Maryland---a latino-centric advocacy group---pushing for unlimited immigration, and has connections to nationwide immigrant groups.

=================================================

ACTION--CONTACT FBI TIPS PAGE WEB SITE---YOU MAY REMAIN ANONYMOUS---https://tips.fbi.gov

<><> Taxpayers demand Rodriguez, USCIS, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, La Raza, and other tax-funded latino groups, be investigated. Supboena official filings, phone records, emails, snail mail copies, hard drives, bank accounts, checking accounts, credit cards, debit cards, wire transfers, social media contacts, and the like.

<><> Taxpayers demand to know if govt factotums like Rodriguez, and the aforementioned tax-funded groups, are consorting with violent organizations advocating the overthrow of the US govt.

<><> TAXPAYERS demand to know who these people are communicating with, and who is directing their activities.

Sure she will. We have defacto amnesty right now, with so many freebies being showered on illegals, every day is Christmas.

I believe the GOP wanted Obama to this on his own. It would have gotten the Chamber people off their back and they would have no ownership of it. They could then fain outrage and make it a election issue.

Both parties want this they just don't want the responsibility that comes with it.

With the new bogus ID cards being dealt out like peanuts, they are future identity thieves. Our DA in NY has his hands full with this problem, along with cybercrime, and what does Blasio the Blase do?
