The parents of a San Jose woman killed by police after she allegedly threatened to kill her family are demanding answers and a full investigation by the district attorney's office.
Diana Showman, 19, was fatally shot by an officer outsider her home after coming out holding a black power drill. Police were responding to reports of a woman holding an "uzi-type weapon" in the Blossom Hill Road neighborhood. (VIDEO)

At the end of the day all the officers made it home safe. That’s what matters.
My Ryobi is the same blue as those practice guns found at training centers and gunshops, so maybe the cops got confused.
My Ryobi is day-glo green.
I’m safe till bad guys paint their Uzis that color.
This is an easy answer....the US military does tons of training. Your local cop might do twelve hours a year of training....mostly just getting forty rounds and firing them away at some range within the county. A US Army private gets lots of training....something that local cops can’t afford.
Well played. I just hope that your post isn't lost on the shoot-first-ask-questions-later crowd.
The PDs could sure afford all those MRAPS and tacticool gear though, now couldn't they?
Maybe they should worry about training for ROEs, using common sense, and dealing with the public rather than loading up on the latest military gadgets.
I don’t think the cops much of anything for the MRAPs. They just get released, and you sign an agreement on how you will release it at the end when you don’t want it anymore.
Then everyone discovers the MRAPs have a maintenance requirement...which requires a certified mechanic, and roughly $30,000 a year in costs. That’s not including diesel.
in the video the reporter said the girl called 911 herself and said she had an uzi.
I have two Craftsman cordless drills, both black. One is vertical, the other is a pistol type which I suppose can be mistaken as an Uzi by the typical trigger-happy cop. Maybe I should paint the tip orange, as I often transport them into and out of other homes to work on.
I would. If people are going to be dropping a dime on everyone with power tools, painting it orange might be a good idea.
At this point, I’m with the cops on this one. We have a drill that looks very much like the one this woman was holding and seemingly aiming in the video. To me, between her behaviour and the appearance of the drill, I can imagine that it would be easy to mistake it for a gun.
Agreed.
Not a bad idea. Also, it would probably be wise not to pretend that they are uzis and point them at people, while pretending to shoot at them.

I was brought up on westerns and cop shows in the 1950s. The good guys would duck behind their horse or car door and say "Common Charlie, toss down the gun and put your hands up". Then when Charlie took a shot at them, the good guys would shoot the weapon out of Charlie's hand. Sigh, I wish things could be like that now. Instead of people being shot for holding cordless drills, cellphones, bb guns, water pistols, squirtguns, etc. At least take a defensive position and see if the perp actually fires a gun. Sheesh. I know, cops are scared and want to take the offensive. In a case the other day, guy took 80 bullets from 6 cops. Now that's offensive.
Now we have:
That guy is holding a stick
BANG BANG BANG
I wonder why he was holding a stick?
