In a very personal post on his Facebook detailing his latest spat with his former spouse, South Carolina Rep. Mark Sanford announced that he and his mistress turned fiancee, Maria Belen Chapur, a woman he once called his 'soul mate,' have called off their wedding plans.

''No relationship can stand forever this tension of being forced to pick between the one you love and your own son or daughter, and for this reason Belen and I have decided to call off the engagement,' Sanford wrote.

'Maybe there will be another chapter when waters calm with Jenny, but at this point the environment is not conducive to building anything given no one would want to be caught in the middle of what’s now happening,' he said, referring to accusations levied against him in court last month by his ex-wife.

Yeah, it was probably a very exciting relationship when it was ilicit.

Now, that you tried to make it regular it probably lost its luster and attractions.

And why, exactly, should I care what Mark Sanford and his Argentine mistress do? He's toast politically, divorced, disgraced, and now without a soul-mate. Poor, poor Mark — I guess it sucks to be you?

Next, Sanford will be picked up in L’Enfant Plaza soliciting homo sex. That, or the live boy / dead girl in his bed option.

Not to mention the complexities of being in a relationship that would have to navigate the complexities of American laws as they sought residency or citizenship.

Time to find another bimbo. ..

You do realize that he is a sitting congressman and unopposed for reelection. I would not call that toast.

"No relationship can stand forever this tension of being forced to pick between the one you love and your own son..."

This is taking the reboot meme entirely too far...

Why do I get the feeling that the GOP insiders are grooming this loser for the 2020 election (after 2016’s loss by Romney, Bush, Christie, or whatever RINO they decide we should be compelled to support in two years). If he didn’t keep his word to his wife, I’m not trusting him to keep his word to me or to our country.

No pressure, kids. But it’s all your fault.

Can't believe the kids would want to see him. If I were in their position, I'd change my last name and tell people my dad died before I was born.

It was disappearing from the face of the earth and his car being found abandoned that triggered the search for the Governor who could have fallen prey to terrorists and was supposed to have been on a backpacking trip and in constant contact with his office.

Re: ‘’No relationship can stand forever this tension of being forced to pick between the one you love and your own son or daughter”

This IS the problem with this narcissist. He has thought all along that he should be able to put his bimbo girlfriend whom he loves ahead of his children. She and his sex life have been the priority in his life. His children are much farther down on the list.

I have such a low opinion of this guy. He might share most of my political views, but I find him a really sickeningly pathetic character. Can never forget his press conferences, in which he came across not as a man, but as some kind of self-absorbed, emo-type teenage girl. Really made my skin crawl.

It figures. No, I haven't been bothering about this poor, disgraced philanderer's social and political life.

Americans have the memories of piss ants and their thought process is over in microseconds. Then it's back to beer, burgers or brats, chips, buffalo wings, pizza, and Netflix

To think I once thought this delusional, vapid, reprobate and utterly compromised shmuck was a great hope for the GOP.

I think we are seeing a meteor falling in slow motion here. Or a train wreck slowed to 1/16th speed.

Who knows who’s really at “fault” in that crazy cloister ... of a marriage, but it probably all starts with him.

Amazing how shallow some people can be, and how stupid some are to vote for them.
