As Businesses Flee, Jerry Brown's California Attracts A Different Kind Of "Investment"

Immigration: When California Gov. Jerry Brown hung out the "all welcome" sign for illegals, Mexico's drug cartels heard him loud and clear. Raids on Thursday left lawmen declaring Los Angeles a cash-laundering mecca. Roping off 100 blocks of downtown Los Angeles this week, federal agents from the U.S. attorney's office raided roughly 70 garment district businesses along with a few houses in tony Westwood and Beverly Hills. The suspected crime was laundering money for Mexico's Sinaloa cartel. Agents hauled out $65 million in cash stuffed in duffel bags, suitcases and boxes, some of it blood-spattered. The cash came from hostage ransoms, drug sales and alien-smuggling fees. Some of those arrested were charged with "various immigration offenses," according to the affidavit.

Without a serious fence system for the Border Patrol to actually watch and guard, the BP is forced to “defend in depth.” The southern border is 2,019 miles from sea to sea. If the Border Patrol check points are 40 miles from the border, agents must roam across an area of 80,000 square miles seeking illegal immigrants. This is a fool’s errand, deliberately futile. 80,000 square miles is the size of Idaho or Kansas.

The same number of border patrol agents actually guarding a physical barrier means that every inch of the border is under observation at all times. For example, anybody carrying a ladder to the fence will be seen, and stopped by nearby Border Patrol agents who react to their approach. That is why the San Diego fence is so effective. It needs to be extended across the entire border. Or, we can keep play-acting at border security, with the Border Patrol playing Keystone Kops across 80,000 square miles of rough scrub land terrain.

“Rope off the entire state of Cali,”

this would have to be a citizen based project.

Such a project engaged in by Government would take something in the neighborhood of three decades to complete...

Re: “If the gringos weren't so insistent on getting high”
You're thinking about the 1970’s.

I see. Somehow, all those folks just STOPPED taking drugs. A MIRACLE, folks. We've seen a MIRACLE!

==========================================

In 2014, nationally, the Gringos are just 62% of all Americans.
I guess you consider all Hispanics and Latinos as NON-gringos. Lol. My father was born in Mexico. HIS family, a French family left France at the beginning of the French Revolution and went to Mexico where a scion of the family was traveling.
At the beginning of the Mexican Revolution the family left for California because one of the sisters had married a Spanish Californian. THUS, I am here. My father was NINE years old at the time.

My father's nickname was "guero" which is "blondie" in Spanish. I have blonde hair too, lighter brown eyes than his and my mother's German complexion.

When I visit my relatives still in Mexico, I am la gringa but NOT according to your definition. Gee, I THOUGHT I was 100% American. I don't LOOK like the Mexican indios. THEY have the Asian blood from long-ago immigration from Asia.

I LOOK 100% European, 100% American.
I guess I don't "fit" your profile.

My Mexican cousins look European too...but THEY wouldn't "fit" your profile either. Oh well. Thank goodness you aren't in charge of anything.

“Agents hauled out $65 million in cash stuffed in duffel bags”

As we become more and more 3rd world with 3rd world ways, how soon before those agents are offered one or two of those duffel bags to look the other way?

The Feds can cordon off 100 blocks of Los Angeles, send in a bunch of military-type hardware and armed-to-the-teeth DEA agents, haul out $65 million in drug money, and we don’t hear a peep about it anywhere? Crazy.

The Mexican government ARE the cartel

The central truth.

When Nieto raps U.S. border enforcement, he's secretly attacking opposition to his cash supply line.

OK - so, gringos are people who live in the USA?

And when Asian and Black USA citizens visit their relatives in Mexico, they are called gringos, too?

I had no idea.

By the way, the Census Bureau invented the “non-Hispanic White” profile, not me.

GRINGOS is what MOST folks in Mexico call Americans. The more educated would say norteamericanos, unless there were none around. Then they MIGHT say GRINGOS.

And when Asian and Black USA citizens visit their relatives in Mexico, they are called gringos, too?
No, the "Black" are called negros and the Chinese are called chinos
Later on in the conversation, when English was OBVIOUS, it would be gringo negro and ...well, they would NEVER assume that ANY Chinese person would be American and they would remain chinos.
I've been to both coasts as well and there never were a whole lot of American blacks visiting Mexico.
Americans, of whatever race, DO STAND OUT. I DID see a middle-aged African-American couple in Kenya. BOY, did THEY ever stand out. They were MANY shades lighter that the EBONY locals. There were overweight and the woman wore this obviously American visor.
They looked slightly dazed. They sure didn't look African.

I had no idea.
Why WOULD you know? I lived and worked there two years so I heard it all.

By the way, the Census Bureau invented the “non-Hispanic White” profile, not me.
Yes, I know.
I was doing this stuff in 1979. I had a form to fill out for our school district and the students had to tell me their "ethnicity." One young black man (15 years old) kept putting "American."
We weren't supposed to coach them but I finally said: "They want your skin color." He nodded and filled it out as BLACK.

“They roped off a 100-block area for this and there was no media coverage?”

Nothing here via the MSM ...
