I'm glad to see him go, but I do wonder...why wasn't castration an option for parole?

Sorry you deserve what you get. There are consequences for actions especially something as brutal as rape. It takes a real sicko to rape a woman. If I were the judge I’d put you in solitary confinement for the rest of your days.

Better make sure he repents before God otherwise the eternal prison of hell will be even ‘slightly’ more unbearable.

“has declined to seek parole because he believes his uncontrollable urges make him a danger to society”

Pity, in a way. Knows himself, understands himself and accepts that he’s a risk and always will be a risk to others.

While we could debate the merits until the cows come home this is one time I’m going to call euthanasia a kindness.

” AFP reports. “I am a human being, and regardless of what I’ve done, I remain a human being,” he told Belgian TV. “So, yes, give me euthanasia.”

I wonder how many children or little old ladies he killed and chopped up.

Maybe these kinds of criminals, once they DO confess, ought to be given the choice... “Execution” or life in prison.

I think that would be fair to all concerned.

WAIT A MINUTE
Belgium, like most (all?) European countries has outlawed the Death Penalty because they claim it's "barbaric" (like those Neaderthal Americans).
But it's "enlightened" to grant them Euthanasia?

I know freepers are not sympathetic to this guy but this person was not sentenced to death and is going to be put to death any way. Just another ride down the slippery slope. Sometimes it sounds like the NAZI’s really did in Europe.

I the case of rapists, I am all for long imprisonment under horrible conditions. And then they can begin their sentences. Killing him because HE wants to die would go against that sentence.

Hitler won.

The Dutch, the Belgians...they’re all killing babies and the elderly. Jews are fleeing Europe.

Impressive. Euthanasia has gone full circle to become capital punishment.

This raises a very interesting question. If death row and ‘life term without possibility of parole’ prisoners in the US were polled, how many would opt for being euthanized?

In all fairness, there might have to be a minimum term in prison before they were eligible to be euthanized, say 10 years out of however many, but after that, with the permission of the board of pardons and parole (which typically reviews all death sentences, and might deny it in many cases), they could be turned off.

You have to admit, this would make a heck of a movie.

Euthanasia.

Wrong word. This is not euthanasia. It’s Capital Punishment AKA The Death Penalty.

I’ve read the article and the comments and understand the death penalty is not legal in Belgium, but even those liberal socialists understand the moral need to put this scum away, so they are trying to “pretty up” the terminology.

After all - while they don’t believe in the death penalty, they do believe in euthanasia. So that’s the verb of the day.

Frank Van Den Bleeken, a Belgian man in prison for multiple rapes and a rape-murder, has decided he wants to die and authorities have decided they can grant that request.

Yet merely executing him would be decried as "cruel and unusual punishment!"

Van Den Bleeken, 50, has been in prison for nearly 30 years and has declined to seek parole because he believes his uncontrollable urges make him a danger to society.

WOW! I admit, I am a little impressed. If this man is self-aware enough to not even seek parole, and knows he's out of control, that is pretty impressive.

Sounds almost like he's Demon-possessed, literally, like a *real* Demon.... and the real Van Den Bleeken knows it and doesn't want the Demon to roam free.
