Short commercial spots usually cost 80K to 100K to produce.

Besides, it doesn’t provide any new information anyway.
If they would actually say something new, that would be one thing.
This spot was a “Hey hey hey, we still are here, remember us?” moment.
Kinda surprised they didn’t put out a hashtag for it too.

As an aside, if we forwarded it to BPEarthwatch, think he’ll come up with some amusing “conspiracy” for it?

I agree that SpaceX will probably deliver more. I don’t necessarily have a problem with two different capsule designs, they are both quite different from each other. SNC’s Dreamchaser is a nice idea but I’ve been unimpressed by their execution of it so far. I think that’s highly unfortunate because I want to see another space plane succeed the shuttle. But I do see the attraction in the “old standard” of Boeing’s command module but I’d rather it be a fallback in case SpaceX’s more innovative DragonRider fails to pan out. Unfortunately I suspect Boeing as a company will not be content to wait in a holding pattern forever, and the cost of finishing their development is probably considerably more than SpaceX. I really don’t like the situation, it feels like it’s rewarding Boeing for inefficiency.

Oh lord, don’t mention his name. He’ll probably dig up some photo of me sitting in line at the Shuttle Experience ride and claim I was the guy in the spacesuit and therefore a proven shill.

No, you won higher taxes to pay for the development of two spacecraft instead of one.

LOL!
And he’ll say it all the while in that droning stoned voice.

The Government probably wants to maintain a competitive industrial base for space lift.

I guess Boeing just needs more money to produce competitive capability.

Maybe in the near term there is a low enough level of technological maturity, and total demand for lift to justify some subsidy to maintain a critical capability, but commercial space is developing quickly. The commercial space sector will blow by the Government programs, just like the computer and electronics industry did decades ago.

My prediction: NASA selects two companies: Space X and Boeing.

What did I win?

Dagnabitt, you were right!

You have my respect, and that of all the free nations of the world.

Send lots and lots of Muslims to colonize Moon and planets. Let them show how they contribute to America and the world. Promise to make Moon, Mars, habitable Jupiter moons, etc., into 57th states of the US, and also Palestinian homeland. They’re so smart, they’ll manufacture their own oxygen, of course after they figure out how to lob missiles at Israel from out there. First things are first, after all.

I hope the Boeing CST-100 is chosen as the CCP solution, although if you listen to the SpaceX droolers the Dragon will get the nod.

Calling people droolers is no way to make friends. SpaceX is a private company trying to do something which has until now only been done by the Government. The Military is the Government. I think it is a good thing to get competition in the market for space flight. Don't call me a drooler. I can call you names too.

But, the desire to “explore” is not enough for some people. Its one of the reasons why Sandals and Cruises are full, but the national parks are sometimes empty.

I have been to Yosemite, Lassen, and Grand Canyon National Parks this year. They were not empty. I have been to Pinnacles, Zion, and Yellowstone twice each in previous year, and Yosemite at least a dozen times over the past five years. They have never been empty. You wouldn't believe the crowds sometimes. You can't get a campsite in any of those places unless you plan a year in advance in most cases, six months in other cases. And the languages: people come from all over the world to visit our parks. Next to the Armed Forces, the Park Service is the best example of a well-run government agency.

If you are age 62 or older you can get a Senior Pass that is good at all National Parks and Monuments. It is a lifetime pass and only costs $10.

I just spent a month going through the west on my motorcycle.

The BIG parks are packed. Some of the smaller ones are remarkably peaceful during the middle of the week.

I found the popular parks full of non-Americans. Could have been the timing. I wish I lived out there. The parks within a full days drive of each other is amazing.

I appreciate that lots of parks are busy, I think I was trying to make a general comment on how lazy MOST Americans are. You are right, of course.

russians:

if good landing, it’s landing target markers.

if not so good, it’s just target markers.

Nobody else had a shuttle that actually worked plus we put a lot of stuff into orbit.
