~ The FReeper Canteen Presents ~

~ Happy 67th Birthday, United States Air Force ~

~ September 18, 2014 ~

Canteen Mission Statement

Showing support and boosting the morale of
our military and our allies' military
and family members of the above.
Honoring those who have served before.

The United States Air Force became a separate military service on
September 18, 1947, with the implementation of the National Security Act
of 1947. The Act created the National Military Establishment,
later renamed the United States Department of Defense,
which was composed of three branches, the Army, Navy and a newly
created Air Force. Prior to 1947, the responsibility for military aviation
was divided between the Army (for land-based operations)
and the Navy, for sea-based operations from aircraft carrier and amphibious aircraft.

Curtiss JNB-4 Jenny

The United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) was the predecessor of the U.S. Army Air Forces (USAAF) from 1926-41, which in turn was the forerunner
of today’s U.S. Air Force (USAF), established on June 21, 1947. Although abolished as an organization in 1941, it existed as a branch subordinate to the USAAF from 1941-47.

The Air Corps was created from the Air Service in 1926 largely as a compromise between advocates of a separate air arm and those of the command structure of the United States Army who viewed the aviation arm as an auxiliary branch to support the ground forces. Although its members worked to promote the concept of airpower and an autonomous air force between 1926 and 1941, as a branch of the Army similar to the Signal Corps or Quartermaster Corps, its primary purpose by Army policy remained support.

Much as it did a quarter century before, the United States immediately
demobilized its armed forces after World War II. Based on the AAF's wartime achievements and future potential, however, the U.S. Air Force won its
independence as a full partner with the Army and the Navy on September 18, 1947.

Please remember that The Canteen is here to support
and entertain our troops and veterans and their families,
and is family friendly.

Good evening, Kathy -

Sorry to hear about your Mom's fall - prayers upward bound!

My son just retired a couple of months ago as a Master Sgt...but gets captain’s retirement because that was his highest rank.

Long story short...he hated being an officer so he gave it up to be enlisted again. :)

Hi, Ma!

I was in basic at Lackland A.F.B. when the Air Force celebrated its 25th Anniversary.

One of my personal heroes was the late, great Col.(Later, Brigadier General and Air Force Academy Instructor) Robin Olds.

An outspoken maverick in every sense of the word. And his air war changing, Operation Bolo in January, 1967.

Good morning night owl ((HUGS))
I once worked for a Navy CDR who was promoted to Captain and he did not like it either. I wasn't working for him at the time, but I believe he decided to retire sooner because he didn't like the position; said it was so different.

So, KUDOs to your son.

WELCOME TO THE

(where our troops, allies and their families can refresh themselves)

Good morning, Everyone.

Good morning to our

Military, our Allies, and their families.

Thank you, Ma, for preparing the Canteen
for today's activities.

United States Air Force.

I've actually managed to get quite a bit done in the last few days.
Now I need to really crunch numbers so I can tell how bad off we are.
Which if I've done my job well this year, won't be too bad.

The FR Canteen is ALWAYS

Come in, sit down.
Grab a cup of joe, or tasty tea.
Mingle a bit, chat with the troops
or family member.
There's always plenty of conversation, silliness,
and plain old BS in the FR Canteen.

REMEMBER THEM ~ DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
