Texas has become epicenter of conservative movement
The Washington Post ^ | September 20, 2014 | Dan Balz, Chief correspondent

AUSTIN — Twenty years ago this November, Texas elected George P. Bush’s uncle as governor. That election cemented Republicans in power in the Lone Star State after a steady period of ascendance.

Democrats haven’t won a statewide elective office since and their candidates for governor (state Sen. Wendy Davis) and lieutenant governor (state Sen. Leticia Van de Putte) are currently seen here in Texas as underdogs this fall.

In the two decades since George W. Bush became governor, the Republican Party here has turned several shades redder. Texas might qualify now as the epicenter of the conservative movement across the country. Here is just one example.

George P. Bush is the grandson and nephew of two presidents and the son of a former governor who is a possible presidential candidate in 2016. He is running for land commissioner in Texas this fall. His campaign symbolizes the steady rightward drift of the Republican Party in the Lone Star State.

The younger Bush carries one of the most famous names in American politics but other than the name, he is hardly basing his message on the legacy of his famous relatives. Even someone named Bush, apparently, is cautious about running as a Republican in Texas on the platform and principles of the kinder-gentler party of the family patriarch, former president George H.W. Bush.....

There is too much liberal funkiness going on in Texas to call it the epicenter of the Conservative movement for my taste. Though it beats the hell out of California.

They appear to be equating republican with conservative, and moreover, using the Bushes.

Wow.

Well, it’s the Post. What do they know about it.

From what I can tell there is somewhat of a Mexican colonization going on in Texas. Mexicans and Mexican Americans are pushing through all areas of culture, language, borders, academia, religious institutions, and elementary and secondary schools.

Whoever wrote this article is even more clueless than the locals who are in deep and silly denial.

Just a thought.

Any 15 to 25 year old knows they can’t get into school very easily nor get a scholarship without being a Mexican of some sort.

Just for instance

It takes a lot of Balz to sell young Master George P., when even JEB can’t get any dam traction.
But it sure is nice of the WashPost to urk him up, like a fish or chicken bone stuck in their gullet.

Even TX is slow. They have the best situation to be independent even without sucession and Perry is nutered. He won’t be a good president.

TX, AX, NM and others should just enforce the laws on the books and the feds be dammned. I was dissapointed when Gov. Brewer in AZ basically backed down when the feds “sued”.

Perry said he’d send the Texas guard to the border and it took what? 45 days? And then they can’t do anything? Why? Tell the feds to shove it. If they want a confrontation get the cameras and give them one!!!

It’s good to see that Texas is making up for LBJ, who was unquestionably tied for worst President ever.

Native Texan here. This article makes me ill. Big difference in Republican and Conservative, and Texas (even as the Republic) is a CONSERVATIVE state, regardless of party. Get it? Republican, Democrat...Texas votes Conservative.

Now what is Florida's Republican son George P. doing here? GO AWAY! We let it slide with Bush from Maine. George W. at least worked here, at several jobs, and married a local, Conservative girl. But this transplant-where-they'll-vote-for-your-sorry-Republican-@ss-BS is getting a little old. More Bush Texan political wannabes? Good grief. And the sad thing is he'll be the only option. The REPUBLICANS in Texas will see he's the candidate. Comments? I'm pissed.

George P. Bush hasn’t run for Governor yet. It was George W. Bush who was elected Governor in 1994.

I damn near passed this one up since it was from the Washington comPost and written by Dan Balz, figuring it to be just another hit piece from a known hit & run journalist.
But after reading Balz’s charmin piece, I found it to be very informative. I learned that I could vote for damn near every Republican running in Texas. Unlike here in AZ.
I wonder if the lovely and deadly Mrs Tupelo is game for another move.

The LBJ Library at the far left University of Texas is a black mark on our fine state. I'm also galled by the number of major roads named in honor of Texas commies such as the LBJ Freeway, the R. L. Thornton Freeway, the Jim Wright Highway and the Sam Rayburn Toll Road. Sadly, not a single major artery is named after Calvin Coolidge in our state, probably due to Conservatism being a recent phenomena. Along with the great President Ronald Reagan, Coolidge deserves such honors.

I do look forward to the day when major Texas airports are named to rightfully honor future Presidents Palin and Cruz.

Good to see another Coolidge fan. Grover Cleveland is also sadly underrated, he tirelessly fought for the gold standard and was opposed to populist idiocy. The Bourbon Democrats were excellent leaders, and it’s really a shame that the Marxists hijacked the party in 1896.

Ditto that! I’m sick of political dynasties and the same tired old politics. Sorry if it’s his turn to run. Inheriting a name should not qualify one for elective office in Texas.

There are better candidates out there and some have names that are not recognizable or pronounceable. Some probably are qualified, but unknown.

I’m looking for some new blood with conservative backgrounds to support.

Amen and I agree completely! A good start would be to carpet bomb Mexico since it is an enemy nation and poses an existential threat due to the cartels' alliances with ISIS. The collateral damage would impact the Rio Grande Valley. Losing that third world strip on the border would go a long way toward erasing a liberal breeding ground.

Though far-fetched, if the University of Texas could become a branch campus of Liberty University (or Hillsdale College), what's now a commie indoctrination center would be transformed into a pro-God, pro-life, pro-gun and anti-sodomy institution for real, Bible-based education. Sure...just a dream...but I dream big!
