In the wake of the killing of an unarmed teenager by a police officer in Ferguson, Mo., concerned citizens of the St Louis suburb will be donning cameras in a bid to prevent future abuses of power.
A California-based group called We Copwatch has raised more than $6,000 to buy video equipment for people in the Canfield Green Apartments, which are near the spot where Michael Brown was killed by Ferguson officer Darren Wilson in August, KDSK reports.
In addition to handing out the cameras, We Copwatch is partnering with community group the Canfield Watchman to teach classes about observers civil rights and how to effectively and lawfully monitor the police....

Actually I think this is a good idea. These citizens will get themselves in trouble and post the video on line to convict themselves.
These won’t last because they would catch the citizens involved in activity they don’t want on camera.
The late Michael Brown is on camera perpetrating a strong-arm robbery, yet there is still a hue and cry to convict Darren Wilson.
Unless you found it, it’ll never exist.
If I was a cop there, I’d be looking for a new job. Screw that town. Why don’t the put the cameras on the criminals?
They will end up stealing them.
The Ferguson Zoo saga continues. God help law enforcement and residents of this community. The Great OZ has spoken.
They will find very few police infractions, because there will be very few police in their neighborhoods.
When we started our Neighborhood Watch a few years back we told folks to make signs that said “This Property Under 24 Hour Video Surveillance” whether they had a system or not. Some folks even bought those cheap dummy cameras and hung them up. Looked real enough.
The cops made it plain to the problem folks that anything that happened on the street was fair game for us. We made a big show of handing copies of events over to the cops, did it nice and loud so everyone knew about it.
In 6 months the crime in our area plummeted to almost nothing. The cops were all extremely professional and polite, too because they knew they were being recorded as well.
Win win.

Do they come with a “Snitches get stiches” disclaimer?
It’s too easy for a single camera to lie (and that includes cameras worn by police). You need video from three or more perspectives to be sure of what you’re seeing.
I’m guessing the home delivery drug dealers won’t be ‘coming round’.
Coming soon to Craigslist:
$6,000 worth of video equipment at fire sale prices...
Obama cameras.
Exactly!
Wait until another Michael Brown assaults a cop.
Do you think for a second that these "cop-watchers" would release any tapes?
Then we'd hear some screaming if a cop-watcher had their recordings subpoenaed.
Do they remove the cameras before the looting?
