I feel bad for the kid and the family. That being said Pentecostal churches are nuts. They create doctrine from inspiration and experience and emotion. Are they “dead” cyhurches? Yes. In their own very special way.

Some churches believe in Baptism as soon as one comes to the alter in public profession of faith. Thus the pool in such church would be kept full most likely. You can't just fill one up an hour or two before a Baptism. It would be like filling a bathtub of cold water and then laying in it. In rural churches on well water it really takes a long time to warm them at least 24 hours or more.

The doors to the pool may have been locked. Toddlers can climb though and there could have been choir seats which usually are right in front of the pool. The picture {mural} behind most of them would likely cause a child to be curious.

They create doctrine from inspiration and experience and emotion.

I believe "ALL" churches have done so to a degree. I've seen Baptist churches that could be mistaken as Pentecostal if a person walked in at certain times when The Holy Spirit was working in the service. Things like 80 year old grandmothers getting up and shouting Praise GOD and dancing. The preacher walking across the pews. etc. Oh and prayers by ones who come down to the alter to pray can sound like speaking in tongues.

Ironically, they are also very legalistic.

Instead of *you can’t raise your hands*, it’s *you must raise your hands*.

If you don’t experience Christianity in the way they prescribe, you aren’t really *saved* or *filled with the Holy Spirit*.

It’s a different perspective from the old Baptist mentality. They judge you not based on what you don’t do (don’t drink, smoke, cuss or chew) but based on what you do do, (speak in tongues, fall over and shake, raise your hands is worship).

Same mindset though, one of judging and determining if you’ve *arrived* or not.

INdeed a tragedy!

Prayers for the repose of the soul of this poor child.

But I think the child is ok: prayers are needed for those left behind; especially the one into whose hands his care was placed.

Some judging need to thank GOD that they have not had this happen. I don’t care how perfect a parent you believe you are accidents can happen. My mom found me a quarter mile down the road when I was about 22 months old or rather a neighbor did. I was going to my cousins house 4 miles away. There isn’t a perfect parent nor a perfect Christian nor a perfect church except the one Christ Himself calls up to be with Him after we are finally set free of our cursed by sin mind and bodies here on earth. As long as we occupy earth we sin and are imperfect.

The article doesn’t state whether this was before or after a Baptismal Service.

If neither; then the tank SHOULD be drained at ALL times when it is not going to be used to avoid this from happening.

My wife teaches a young childrens SS class. Once, when one had to go to the bathroom and she took them to the toilet, a young boy slipped out of the room and hid in a utility closet, thinking that playing hide and seek would be funny.

Returning and finding the boy gone caused quite a panic, as the news recently had featured abduction stories.

He was FINALLY found, hiding behind a box, giggling.

We placed latches on ALL the downstair doors up high where little kids could no longer open the door by themselves.

Maybe I’m being cynical but the story doesn’t seem entirely plausible.

Oh?

Perhaps the child was just a bit more than a toddler, and was one of them kind that can dart away in an instant while your head is turned.

Most, if not all, 5 gallon buckets have warnings about kids ending up head first inside it and drowning.

Please explain how a teenager can not pull a two year old from two and a half feet of water.

You have to KNOW where it is, first.

Look I doubt many churches place the safeguards on the Baptismal Pool many think should be there. How many times in your life have you heard of this happening? A first one for me.

But Hey..Blame the denomination, blame the parents, blame the kid, blame the preacher. We will not be deprived of BLAMING AND JUDGING A TRAGEDY AND JUDGING A CHURCH NO ONE POSTING HERE HAS LIKELY EVEN SEEN!!!!

Howabout some Thank GOD it wasn't you and hug your kids.

It finally played for me.

No pictures of the inside of the church.

Matthew 21:13
And said to them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer;

I agree.

The Technics used are simple. Charismatic speaker with a rhythmic delivery. Music, lights, willing participants. A textbook method to create mass hysteria.

In the Army, we used the same methods to spin up troops for bayonet drill. “What is the Spirit of the bayonet? KILL, MAIM, MUTILATE.” I tell you after we whipped em up you didn’t want be in front of them with a target on your chest!

I have been to a hypnotist stage show, participated in and lead bayonet training, and been to a few Pentecostal services (pretty lady involved) and the methods are identical.

So is that from God or from man?

I could turn this into yet another C vs P thread by saying, "Don't you mean CATHOLIC?"

You’re not being a model of Christianity yourself, here. If your family experienced the tragic death of a young child, would you react positively or negatively to someone outside of your church using that occasion to mock and condemn that church? I take issue with some of their theology myself, but the only decent reaction would be to pray for them. You should try that instead. Just a suggestion.

If a family member is on this thread I will apologize profusely. Are they on this thread?
