Syria Becomes the 7th Predominantly Muslim Country Bombed by 2009 Nobel Peace Laureate
The Intercept ^ | 23 September 2014 | Glenn Greenwald

Posted on 09/23/2014 9:17:16 AM PDT by Rockitz

The U.S. today began bombing targets inside Syria, in concert with its lovely and inspiring group of five allied regimes: Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Jordan.

That means that Syria becomes the 7th predominantly Muslim country bombed by 2009 Nobel Peace Laureate Barack Obama—after Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Libya and Iraq.

The utter lack of interest in what possible legal authority Obama has to bomb Syria is telling indeed: Empires bomb who they want, when they want, for whatever reason (indeed, recall that Obama bombed Libya even after Congress explicitly voted against authorization to use force, and very few people seemed to mind that abject act of lawlessness; constitutional constraints are not for warriors and emperors).

It was just over a year ago that Obama officials were insisting that bombing and attacking Assad was a moral and strategic imperative. Instead, Obama is now bombing Assad’s enemies while politely informing his regime of its targets in advance. It seems irrelevant on whom the U.S. wages war; what matters it that it be at war, always and forever.

Six weeks of bombing hasn’t budged ISIS in Iraq, but it has caused ISIS recruitment to soar. That’s all predictable: the U.S. has known for years that what fuels and strengthens anti-American sentiment (and thus anti-American extremism) is exactly what they keep doing: aggression in that region. If you know that, then they know that. At this point, it’s more rational to say they do all of this not despite triggering those outcomes, but because of it. Continuously creating and strengthening enemies is a feature, not a bug. It is what justifies the ongoing greasing of the profitable and power-vesting machine of Endless War.

If there is anyone who actually believes that the point of all of this is a moral crusade to vanquish the evil-doers of ISIS (as the U.S. fights alongside its close Saudi friends), please read Professor As’ad AbuKhalil’s explanation today of how Syria is a multi-tiered proxy war. As the disastrous Libya “intervention” should conclusively and permanently demonstrate, the U.S. does not bomb countries for humanitarian objectives. Humanitarianism is the pretense, not the purpose.

The irony is breathtaking, but you'll never see a NYT editorial on this amazing factoid.

He didn’t deserve the nobel prize. He should give it back. But he won’t.

We had absolutely no business bombing Libya. We do have an interest in ensuring ISIS does not take over country after country. No idea what Obama is doing here but I do agree with a coalition bombing ISIS in Iraq and Syria. I just have zero confidence Obama will take ISIS out. I think he will use this to promote his agenda to get rid of dictatorships (which actually helps ISIS)

whee is the anti war crowd, the tolerance crowd and students about this.

Turkey is attacking refuges at their border and not a peep from Amnesty international, but we want out borders secured because of r=terrorism and we give them food, water, health care education and we are condemned.

The left are nothing but hypocrites, but when he has the media telling us they are not biased, and there are millions of uneducated ignorant fools out there who vote based on color then they control the message and help the left to advance their socialism.

Hey, let’s some of us sign up on DU and Huf’n’Puf, and start demanding that the Nobel committee take back that dumb prize! Maybe we could start a little war over there!

There he is, ladies and gentlemen. There sits Barack Hussein Obama, a colossus among us mere mortals, trying to shave with an orange.

If we are bombimg Assad and Isis then what is the future goal of all of this.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.
He tells the world we are leaving Iraq and there is a power vacuum.
He bombs Libya and there is a power vacuum.
He now wants out of Afghanistan and tells the world and thinks all will be ice there.

This is pure insanity and not one reporter has asked serious questions about this, hell we have no idea what these supposed 40 countries are and what are they doing.
Instead Obama mentions 40 countries and the media just repeats it.

Bush mentions 40 countries and the media go into a frenzy wanting answers.

It shows you how deluded the left wing nuts are when they think the media is not biased for them

The Obama administration takes 4 positions on every issue. So bombing Syrian Rebels (IS), while bombing Assad (soon to come), while funding and arming Syrian Rebels (moderates) makes perfect sense. So my prediction is eventually Obama will have American troops firing at each other as they support two opposing forces.

“after Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Libya and Iraq.”

Don’t forget Somalia.

Iraq has sizeable Shia minority. Iran is the only Shia majority country.

Here’s the piece by Professor AbuKhalil he was referring to.

http://english.al-akhbar.com/content/syrian-wars-proxy

From Wiki:

AbuKhalil describes himself as “a former Marxist-Leninist, now an anarchist”, a feminist, and an “atheist secularist”.

He is vocally pro-Palestinian, describes himself as an anti-Zionist, supports a secular Palestinian state. He is a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, and says that “the real aim of BDS is to bring down the state of Israel...Justice and freedom for the Palestinians are incompatible with the existence of the state of Israel”. He is an opponent of the Iraq War. He is critical of Zionism, of United States foreign policy, of Iran, Saudi Arabia, of both Fatah and Hamas, and of all rival factions in Lebanon including the Shia Hezbollah.

My guess is Zero wants to slow down ISIS a bit and get them off the front pages because it distracts from his agenda. I doubt he wants to destroy them or he would not be supporting ISIS by getting rid of these dictators.

He just wants Assad out. That’s all this is about.

The USA ought to bomb ALL of the majority Mohammedan countries with nuclear weapons to rid humanity of the cancer of Mohammedanism.

2009 Nobel Peace Prize winner Barak Obama has added Syria to the existing list of sovereign nations he has ordered bombed:

• Syria
• Afghanistan
• Pakistan
• Yemen
• Somalia
• Libya
• Iraq

And I thought only cowboys from Midland Texas were war-mongers….
