By Disrespecting Its Base, GOP Risks Electoral Flop

Political pollsters have a tough job. They have to create formulas to determine if the person they are interviewing is likely to vote, and it is within this calculation that their reputations are made.

Typically, those who are likely to vote in an off-year election are pretty set. They are the people who always vote in elections — with some motivated by specific issues.

In a wave election, the number of those motivated by specific issues escalates, changing the electoral landscape as the candidates who are beneficiaries of this increased participation sweep to victory.

The 2014 election is rapidly looking like something new and different. Democrats are reportedly demoralized by the failed Obama administration and general fatigue.

Republicans, in an orgy of expectations, believe the key to taking the Senate was getting "electable" candidates nominated.

And get them nominated they did.

The establishment got their candidates. Now they're looking at a potentially disastrous election where their chosen ones dramatically underperform all reasonable expectations, the result of attacking their own party's base to cement primary victories.

One state party chairman has privately bemoaned that social conservatives in his state openly question why they should bother voting at all. Given the national party's desire to kick them out of the big tent to make room for a hoped-for influx of pot smoking hipsters, who can blame them?

Across the nation, Tea Party conservatives question the wisdom of being tied to a Republican Party that wants them to just shut up and vote for whomever the establishment decides, and it is this indecision on whether to vote at all that is at the heart of the GOP's polling woes.

Not voting for rinos. What is the point it is voting for a dem. Will never vote pro-death no matter how conservative...you do not even have the morals to protect the weakest among us you have no business in power over others.

The thing Republican leaders never learn from past elections(which tells much of their IQ) is that we are not the mindless easily controlled dem base. We stay home when given the choice of the lesser of two evils. Evil is evil to us and the leadership is too stupid to learn from their own history.

You want to win elections....MAKE THE BASE HAPPY. A happy base is an excited base and that excitement translates into money and people working for you instead of you having to use guilt to get them to the polls they are dragging others with them.

The stupid party never ceases to amaze with their stupidity and their refusal to be honest about their base.

The GOP will win when they give us something to vote FOR, not against.

exactly, in the “old days” we thought the GOPe was at least open to conservatives, I don’t think we get that feeling any more.

The face Americans never want to see again that literately pushed a badly informed electorate into an unconstitutional Progressive nightmare:

or this crooked constitutional devouring politician....

Look where these two have taken America....don't ever forget them....ENOUGH!!! This is why Conservatives of all stripes will take America on a different course...the right course.

I hope it is a monumental flop for them. Only then will we have any real power and be able to finally take over the GOP. If they take over the Senate ... you think they disrespect us now ...

So Harry Reid stays in power and O’bama has another two years of clear sailing in his quest to destroy the country. Yeah that’s a winning strategy. I don’t like the GOPe either but it is a numbers game. If we want to have the chance for the Ted Cruz’s of the world to get things done they have to be in the majority party even if it is not the exact majority we would like it to be. This thought that the GOPe will learn it’s lesson has been bandied about on FR for years and it hasn’t happened yet. Preserving power for the Dems is not going to make a Sh*ts worth of difference to the GOP leadership. Take your wins where you can, get the chairmenships back and quit cutting off your nose to spite Karl Rove’s face. He doesn’t care, deal with it.

I’m voting against Democrats.

That should be the bottom line for every conservative. Unfortunately, too many conservatives will stay home if the GOP candidate is less than perfect. I'm guilty of that myself.

A liberal acquaintance of mine dislikes - and I mean really dislikes - Hillary. But she told me that she would still vote for Hillary over any Republican.

That sort of thinking wins elections! If we conservatives cannot do the same, we'll have the moral high ground...as we watch the degenerate left ruin the country.

I cast my last RINO vote for Romney.
No more.

The only thing I hate worse than a Republican is a Democrat.

They stand for nothing. No message, no vision, no plan.
Only Democrats bad, Harry Reid evil.
And that will not be enough.

We fought the good fight, did our best. Yes Gop e are evil bastards. We have more in common w them that the real evil bastards the dems. That is who we must defeat now. Haven’t we learned how much worse life is under dem rule?

Well that didn't take long for someone to spout the same old mantra. Someone please explain the definition of insanity to this person.

A modicum of truth here...we have to slay those evil bastards and in order to do that....personal issues must be left to your state....ALL must stand shoulder to shoulder against the Progressives and their enormous PACS...they can't win against America standing for America. Quit the whining and work to defeat these Socialist Americans.

Not only are these RINOs cowards; they are dogs gorging on the flesh of our countrymen. Herod’s end was well documented, and those who follow in his footsteps will share his inheritance.

They can talk all they want about the next election or the magic ratio when the stalwart GOPe shall lead the country to the promised land. I’ve heard the same story for 30+ years. Compromise here!  Moderate there! Celebrate mediocrity! Revel in failure! Salvation is at hand! Watch the show!

Please tell me of one instance in all of history, where those who were complicit with the enemy rose up to institute a legitimate regime. It’s time to speak the truth in love. I love this country and I hate the GOPe as it is now constituted. They are not the enemy, they are the kapos keeping the rest of the victims in line.

I have worked in the GOP from the streets to state delegate. I was there when George W was crowned, and Rove was kingmaker. He was a bastard then, and his ilk have infiltrated every part of the party. The cancer has spread so far that I’m not sure the patient can survive. Either way, there is a lot of pain involved and the party is dead in all but name.

The have accused us conservatives of abandoning their pathetic candidates forever, but they are going to see what it looks like when we actually do. We were the only dumb asses that voted again and again for the lying, miserable, conniving, amoral hacks that they ran despite all our misgivings and ultimately, our principles.

I don’t know that the party will care. Those in charge are truly content to live off of the blood of our country’s soul. They have no principle, no morals. Unless we wrest the party back, there is no party.

This party is run by the same big money, big politics, big government consortium as the Democrats. They are evil and they have shown their true colors. It will be a bloody fight and it won’t be confined to the ballot box.

I will never vote for another RINO as long as I live and I will not work for the party in any capacity until they return to the founding principles.

So in November, for those whose only choice in the mid-terms is between a RINO and a Democrat, I urge them to stay home on election day, or vote third-party

This is the problem with all of these diatribes. The ranting ends without a plan to advance conservatism, but in a fit of pique that will help Democrats and sends waves of pure joy through the hearts of Obama, Reid, and Pelosi. They thank you profusely.

A monumental flop for them is huge victory for O’bama and his progressive toadies. It will be heralded in the press as a mandate for him to put the pedal to the metal his last two years. And what will the GOPe learn? Nothing. They will blame the loss on lack of money and the tin foil hat Tea Party members who stayed home rather than support their party in a time of need. They won’t come back to you hat in hand they will blow you off as hopeless and go even harder after the CofC and hipster voters. Senators as a group are arrogant, narcissistic assh*les who only look out for their own good. The best scenario as things stand now is to get the chairmanships back in the hands of the GOP and work to make the House even more conservative, which is much easier, and let them hold the Senate to account. Giving power back to Harry Reid accomplishes nothing, including teaching Karl, Mitch and the boys anything.
