In order to be good satire, it has to be believable. These days it’s hard to tell even with the most bizarre stories.

Remember how in Men in Black when they went to get the “real news” from the supermarket tabloids to find out about alien incidents that they needed to follow?

You know, we have a bloggers forum and chat (vanity) forum, right?

Going to a restaurant after hitting the range is nothing
even close to posting your own writing hoping for hits.

Or did you know that already?

What is your point exactly?

Please clarify.

Perhaps they don’t allow you to go out to eating places and you don’t know that it is different than sitting in the Rec-Room listening to ABBA and eating Jello?

I read all the thread and see no responses to your comments.

I believe there is important information in your statement.

Could you enlarge on that meaning...maybe an example?

I love reading John’s satire and expect it the minute I see his name. Could the problem be avoided by changing the title?

“a Satirist Laureat designation”

I love Semmens, but I sure do miss Iowahawk (can be found on Twitter BTW).

>>Do you mean that Eric Holder is NOT going to JP Morgan Chase for $77 million per year? LOL<<

Great example — if that happened NO ONE would be surprized!

Jim, thanks.

I come here primarily for breaking news, and don’t need the satire.

I mean satire has it’s purpose and can be funny, but it should be easily identifiable.

Bump often to this post!

The problem is John Semmens posts “Satire” in a number of places.

AMEN! Semmens is a credit to this site. Good grief. Like there aren't more important things to whine about than some (exceedingly clever and well-written) satire.

Idunno, maybe they were all Floriduh voters in 2000.

/sarc for those who need it.

You know, we have a bloggers forum and chat (vanity) forum, right?

You know, dirtbags can take advantage of that by just posting links, right?

I'd rather read John's writings than some of the tin foil hat sites certain Freepers post.

As far as “advertising” goes, I receive no financial compensation from any source for my satires. They are my freely given contribution to the battle for human freedom.

Thanks so much, Jim. This was a long time coming.

As I’ve said many times, it hurts the forum when someone posts a phony inflammatory headline and story with almost no indication that it’s a fake story. People who hate us can then point and say, “look what these RWNJs believe” and it becomes part of the lefty narrative. It is infuriating to those of us who care about FR.

I appreciate good satire. Thing is, most folks’ attempt at satire simply isn’t very good. In most cases I end up wanting the 30 seconds I wasted reading the article back.

Who would have thought it, eh? Fora for bloggers to pimp their blogs and fora for people to make snarky or even funny threads.

There are some serious ones too but I avoid them...

He thinks he's "all that" and posts only his own stuff.

OMG, seriously? Are we in middle school now, jealous of the "popular" kid?

Semmens has posted here for years. If Jim wanted him gone, he'd be gone. Clearly he's been okay with it; it's time for those who don't care for his postings to simply pass them by. This is ridiculous.

Jonathan Swift is rolling in his grave. LOL.

From an analysis of "A Modest Proposal", the author states:

Swift’s decision to put off the actual suggestion of eating babies until several paragraphs into the piece makes his idea all the more arresting when it does come.

Analysis

This is the type of abusive comment that a decent person ought to be ashamed to post.
