God Save Us from the Loud 'I'm Staying Home This Year' Conservatives

By Jim Geraghty

A few thoughts from the middle of the day . . .

God save us from self-professed "conservatives" who will announce they'll stay home on Election Day as a demonstration of their power.

Because as we all know, you become more influential in politics and government and public life by staying home and doing less.

....

Does the "I'm staying home" crowd apply this to everything in life? "I don't like the way the company is run, so I'm not going to work."

"Honey, I'm just not happy with your performance as a spouse, so I'm going to be less active in the marriage until you improve."

"Kids, I'm disappointed with your performance in school. Until you improve, I'm ignoring you."

The thing is, I wonder how often the "I'm staying home this year" crowd voted before. In fact, I wonder if they ever vote.

I don't understand the "I've never been more fearful for the future of this country, but I'm not willing to do anything about it" mentality.

Ronald Reagan is not walking through that door, folks.

What would it do for the pro-life cause if the GOP Senate Caucus (of say 51 to 55 members) included Susan Collins, Scott Brown, Mark Nancyboy Kirk, LAMAR!!!! Alexander, Rob Portman, and say 6 other turncoats to be named later. As pro-lifers, do we miss Olympia Snowe?

The GOP-E leadership ALWAYS has an excuse for non-performance on OUR issues and they are remarkably efficient at protecting Muffie's trust fund, enacting special breaks for special businesses, cutting the taxes of the megabucks set. But for the babies? Not so much!

>>That I did not vote Republican does not mean that I voted Democrat.
>
> Actually it does.
> Candidate C is meaningless. Any vote NOT for Candidate A (including votes for Candidate C) is a vote for Candidate B.
> You are the daft one. This is simple math.

Ok, let's go.
Candidate A: Gary Johnson (Libertarian Party)
Candidate B: Obama (Democrat Party)
Candidate C: Romney (Republican Democrat #2 Party)

You voted for candidate C [Romney] so, in reality, you voted for A [Obama].
Thanks for voting for Obama.

Show me where I posted any support for liberalism or admit you are a liar.

This is easy.

You have the entire thread (and my posting history) to try to back up your lie.

Show where I have pushed liberalism or admit your lie.

Liar.

P.S. If the eGOP wants to run liberals then we conservatives are of no consequence if we do not vote since a liberal will win anyway, right?

You don’t get to redefine the variables to support your version of the argument. This is what liberals do.

IOW, I am not surprised.

You obozo voters are pretty weak in the logic arena.

You used to be a big PDSer siding with libs spreading Palin memes. You are pushing people to vote for any R no matter how liberal.

Pretty evident.

Now get ta skippin and show us Mitt’s conservative record in office.

I will vote Gillespie in November if have to swim...
= = = = = = = = = = =
I also plan on voting R - for the Senate and Cong races
BUT
I will no longer vote for a hand picked e that eventually ‘throws’ the race - as Romney and McCain did and I did vote for both— but he is the last GOPe I will waste my time on - will either leave blank or whatever but NO more ‘e’ for Pres.

I didn’t figure Warner would be all that interested but I guess since Jim Webb snuck in there when all Allen had to do is kiss babies and collect money - His big mistake (IMNSHO)was trying to compare Webb with Kerry.....
Hopefully this Enron thing will backfire on Warner

Still waiting for you to support your lie.

Liar.

I have already demonstrated how a non-vote is a ote for the other side. Your use of the word “lie” is yet another lie.

Dang were you born a liar or were you brought up that way?

Folks, why do we tolerate this horseshit on FR? Is there any wonder that we keep ending up with Romney when this is what represents the thinking of the far right?

You lie AGAIN!

You have my entire posting history available.

Link to my supporting liberalism or admit your lie.

But I will allow you to withdraw and the world will know you are a lying liar.

Better than your continued feeble attempts at backpedaling from your lies.

Last Dakotan:

Who did Presidents McCain or Romney put on the Supreme Court? Who would ROMNEY name if the nation went nuts and elected him in 2016 (which I guarantee you it won't). William Kunstler is dead. ROMNEY could appoint Bill Clinton who has his law license back. ROMNEY could name Hillary or Janet "Shakes" Reno or Eric Holder? Is Lois Lerner available? Decisions, decisions!

If all you care about is $$$$ and you nominate another Romney, expect his defeat by a wider margin and that your taxes will escalate accordingly.

It’s you who need a remedial course in math. Or logic. Either will do.

You’ve been employing the fallacy of False Dilemma all through this thread.

American voters are not limited to a choice between Republican or Democrat as much as that pains loyal party hacks. Your syllogism depends upon that inconvenient falsehood. And even worse for those who wish it were so, voters can’t be compelled to vote for one or the other. Such a shame. Four parties ran in 1860. Three parties ran in 1912. And there are minor parties every election cycle.

The unfortunate reality for party hacks is that they actually have to appeal to voters to win elections. It would be so much simpler if they could just badger voters into voting for them. You seem to be trying that method. But alas it doesn’t seem to be persuading many.

If the GOP doesn’t start appealing to conservatives it could go the way of the Whig Party. I’m sure that the Whigs thought that voters owed them support just as you think voters owe the GOP.
