News Release October 2, 2014
Out of an abundance of caution, Texas and Dallas County health officials have ordered four close family members of the Dallas Ebola patient to stay home and not have any visitors to prevent the potential spread of disease.
We have tried and true protocols to protect the public and stop the spread of this disease, said Dr. David Lakey, Texas health commissioner. This order gives us the ability to monitor the situation in the most meticulous way.
The local health department had previously instructed the family to stay home, but a strict public health control order is needed to ensure compliance. Ebola is not contagious until symptoms appear. The family members do not have symptoms at this time.
The orders were hand delivered to the family members Wednesday evening by local health officials. The orders legally require the family to stay at home and not have any visitors without approval from the local or state health department until at least Oct. 19. The order is in place until the incubation period has passed and the family is no longer at risk of having the disease.
The order requires the family to be available to provide blood samples and agree to any testing required by public health officials and to immediately report any symptoms to Dallas County Health and Human Services. Symptoms include fever above 100.5 degrees, headache, nausea, diarrhea or abdominal pain.
Texas law allows the state health department and the local health authority to issue control measures to a person who is ill with, has been exposed to, or is the carrier of a communicable disease. (Health and Safety Code §81.083). Control measures by law can include isolation, quarantine and preventive therapy. If a person does not follow these orders, they can be enforced by the courts, and the person can face criminal charges.

Holder will sue Texas over this!
Yes. Leadership.
I’m not thrilled about my upcoming flight either. My niece is getting married in just 2 months, at which point I expect this to be fairly rampant. If not this, then some other virus.
We should be hearing more from Republicans on this also.
Well, if you don't, illegals still will.
Quarantine detention centers.
Never too late. They do not shed much if any virus until the virus spreads in their body and they get the fever.
I remember my brother and I being quarantined in his bedroom for the measles when we were kids. Only saw mom and my older brother during that time, and no one else in our 8-member family. I remember being too sick to play until the last day. Then suddenly, I was back to normal. Food tasted good again, and the sun was shining. I have no idea if it was days or weeks.
Of course, this is more serious than that.
OK I know I have seen him here for decades (yes, I have been freeping that long) but who is Gondring?
He just freepmailed to me that Ebola workers only wear masks and gloves
I think he must not have a TV that shows CDC workers in full body containments suits with ventilation.
Does anyone have a copy of “The Hot Zone” they can give him> (It is free online)
Watch Obama come in an over-ride this. It’s racist!
The number of people coming in contact with Ebola patient has jumped from 18 to 80. A health official was asked where the perceived contact happened. Shopping, etc.? The spokesperson would not answer. Then he was asked if these additional people were being quarantined or at least monitored and he said no just being questioned.
My mother lived in Phoenix in the late 1920s, early 1930s and used to talk about quarantines. She said it was fairly common and people would leave things the people might need on the doorstep. We were much smarter then, the problem is we seem to think we are much smarter now and are too worried about “feelings” to worry about the things we really should.
Late, and who pray tells does their grocery shopping or medicine pick ups and deliveries? What about postal deliveries, they have to check the mail box and that exposes the postal driver. Who is paying their bills if no one can work?
We still don’t know the transmitting agent. Could it be a mosquito born virus like Yellow Fever?
So they are locking them up in an apartment, did they decontaminate the place? Duncan was vomiting as he was being led to the ambulance. Are we to believe he didn’t express any bodily fluids in the home? I was born at night just not last night.
How does one decontaminate the outside? I don’t think it’s with a hose on the sidewalk.
Mosquito transmission seems possible, but like yellow fever, malaria, etc. we eradicate them rather easily each time they show up in this country. We used to have endemic malaria nearly everywhere in North America. All gone now and will stay that way with some vigilence.
Eric Holder still has time to bring ‘em up on civil rights charges...
