U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham might be easy to find on Sunday morning political talk shows, but you won't see him on the S.C. ETV Senate candidate debate this year.
Graham has turned down an invitation to appear on the network's Oct. 13 debate featuring at least two of his challengers.
His decision marks a change of course since his GOP primary, when he participated in an ETV debate with all six of his Republican opponents days before the June vote.
Graham's campaign spokesman did not respond to questions about his reason for not being part of one of the state's traditional pre-election televised events. Instead, he pointed to the possibility of other, unidentified forums.
"We're in discussions with other groups, as well as looking at the schedule," spokesman Tate Zeigler said. "Stay tuned."
Graham could be reluctant to appear on the same stage with former state treasurer and independent candidate Thomas Ravenel, who has a cocaine conviction and is also filming his reality TV show, "Southern Charm," during the current campaign season.
Graham's opponents accused him of retreating from a challenge.
"Lindsey gets breathless with excitement when it comes to sending our young men and women to war but is terrified at the thought of defending his own record in a public debate," said Democrat Brad Hutto. "The seat does not belong to Lindsey Graham, it belongs to the people. The people deserve to hear from him."

Senator Graham (SC-Lobbyist Party) is not a Republican or Democrat....he just represents key special interests, period.
Guess he’s ahead in the race and the dem’s anti war quote is all I have to hear. The dem is the one who will get our troops killed, along with the rest of us.
Nothing to gain by debating. Nothing to lose by not. He has this election wrapped up, so no need to put any spotlight on the opponents.

I’ll be proud to vote against Tinkerbelle for the third time.
South Carolina could do so much better than this glorified lobbyist.
I will vote for the rest of the Republicans, but I won’t vote for this hayseed.
Personally I really don’t care for him but we gave him everything we had and South Carolinians say they are all right with him....go figure!!!
Then the Dem and the Indy should go ahead and hold as many Debates as they can. It’s free air time........
Good for you. If I live in SC I wouldn’t vote for him either.
What a choice, vote for a communist democrat, a treasonous Rino or leave blank/write-in, lose...lose...lose!
If an exit poll shows that more people voted against Flimsey than for the Democrat, that could send a message, which Graham in his arrogance would of course ignore.
South Carolina is rich topsoil for conservatism. We’re armed to the teeth, illegals & Muslims are afraid to come here or keep to themselves, and our liberals whine about how “racist” we are, how there’s nothing they can do about it, yet they find the courage to go on living here.
Faggies manage one anemic pride parade a year, while the Veterans’ Day parade floods Main Street like a mighty river.
There’s an old saying about how South Carolina has been blessed by a century & a half of bad publicity. It keeps a lot of undesirables out, meaning lefties from liberal states who want to make their new home just like their old one.
The gerrymandered 6th District has James Clyburn as Congresscritter for life, but the wealth & technology is in the rest of the state.
Yes, we have idiots like Mark Sanford.
“Lindsey gets breathless with excitement when it comes to..........”
So many choices — so little time!
Geez, who knows...? With the beautiful women I have seen in South Carolina, especially in politics, and Sanford has to go all the way to the bottom of the Southern Hemisphere to a country that’s been messed up since the Perons were in power, in search of she who makes the earth move,
I just don’t get it. Throws away his marriage, his family, his future for national office, to do the tango with some faraway floozie.
Maybe it really is a matter of which head one thinks with.
