Houston’s Mayor Backtracks on Church Subpoenas, Tosses Her Own Lawyers Under the Bus (Updated)

Houston’s power-mad Mayor Annise Parker has backtracked on those subpoenas that she had the city issue to five city pastors, at taxpayer expense.

The mayor made the move as Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott sent a letter to Parker asking that she withdraw the subpoenas “immediately.”

Attorney General Greg Abbott Asks Houston City Attorney to Withdraw Subpoenas Seeking Sermons, Other Documents from Houston-area Pastors

AUSTIN — Attorney General Abbott today asked that the Houston City Attorney to immediately withdraw the subpoenas sent last month to several Houston-area pastors seeking sermons, notes and other information.

In his letter to the city attorney, Attorney General Abbott said, “Whether you intend it to be so or not, your action is a direct assault on the religious liberty guaranteed by the First Amendment. The people of Houston and their religious leaders must be absolutely secure in the knowledge that their religious affairs are beyond the reach of the government.”

They would do it if they could get away with it.

“Now, don’t try this trick at the local mosque. “

Ironically, lesbians would be one of the very first groups to be targeted by the Muslim community as they are viewed as the vilest of the vile.

Recall how Iran was treating the gays there? By execution.

I think the Mayor backed down because she realizes it would have turned into one REALLY ugly First Amendment case. She was actually asking for cellphone text messages between the pastor and parishoners!

They would have a hard time getting copies of my priests sermons. He doesn’t use notes or reads his sermons.

Liberals/homos don’t have a problem with Muslims because they share a common Enemy.

It should be hard, impossible really, to get copies of any preachers sermons, written or not.

My thinking as well.

The churches should have told them to get the sermons the way everyone else gets them...fill out the slip, pay the 3 dollars and get your CD the next week.

I’d just tell them all my sermons are saved on Lois Lerner’s hard drive.

When you sit and think about how this all started...someone wanting all public city bathrooms to be open to anyone (male bathroom open for ladies to use, and female bathroom for men to use)....someone intentionally led naive Democrats down a path for public embarrassment. It had to be planned out at least a year or two ago, and designed for maximum fall here in 2014 and 2016.

Lets say that they get past the initial stage and drag these ministers into court...figure spring or summer of 2015. The attention by the national media will be immense and likely televised across for forty million homes in the US. Latinos are the heart of the Democratic Party currently....but they are strong religious folks, and frequent churches. They will go against the party and divide the Party itself.

I would believe that various outside influences came into play early on, which had no city official grasping at what would occur. I think the drafting of this subpoena was also drafted by outside players. And I suspect that advice given to the mayor so far, has many outside groups playing this up.

It will all come to hurt the party in a serious way in 2016. If I had to pick an episode with such creativity for the Republicans....this is a five-star moment. All of this created....so that a hundred-odd people could pretend they were men today and go into the guy’s restroom, or men pretending to be women going into the women’s restroom. Even Harry Reid has to be shaking his head over this. He sure doesn’t want Barb Boxer coming into his restroom.

The obvious - for the pastors is to pull the lerner defense.
The problem is that pastors are probably too honorable to lie.

Militant homosexuals, when they get elected to power on their platform to want to just be accepted lie, their true nature surfaces and it is not tolerance toward Christians, it is payback.

The voters of the state of Oregon by a 57% margin, amended the state constitution for the definition of marriage to be one man, one woman. The militant homosexuals filed suit, found a activist homosexual judge, the democrat attorney general decided she was not going to defend the state constitution and now we have legal same sex marriage, decided by one homosexual judge.

Now there are unintended consequences, the constitution says it is illegal, so now the Oregon Dept of Revenue is not sure how to treat their newly found unconstitutional "marriage" status in the filing of state income tax.

This was a CONCIOUS attempt to use the Force of the State to instill fear!

Fear of what? Don't you and they know that many Christians are ready to die for their faith? Did you not see the dedication of the Sudan woman when she would not renounce her Christian faith, she was jailed pregnant, with her two year old child, sentenced to death had her baby in the jail cell chained to the floor knowing she was going to be hanged post haste and refused to convert to the Muslim religion.

I think maybe you and many others have not a clue how "radical" Christians can be to allegiance to their faith.

Fear of what?

Fear of the State, genius.

Sit down and have a cold drink. You’re a bit overheated.

And don’t presume to tell me anything about how ‘radical’ anyone is, I can read.

The Shit’s gonna hit the fan for sure. Can’t wait to see how ‘radical you and your big mouth are then.

Your penultimate paragraph was stupid.
